I got to say that the last 3 generations of Rivieras were never the answer. Air suspensions that leak. Gutless wonders that were huge on the outside but really rather small on the inside. At least be the last generation you could tell the tires were actually attached to the car.
That car line tortured me for years as my family had them then my GF had one too.
A close second is the reatta. I can't find that as the answer to anything either.

The one answer you'll never hear here is unanimous agreement

Aw, no, no. I could not disagree more. The Reatta is a fantastic little car. Handsome, acceptable fwd handling, very comfy, cool and swanky 80s-ness. In fact, a dream car of mine is the mashup between these two cars: A Reatta with the supercharged Riviera 3800.
Nobody has said this yet?
I guess size and space wise it is functional, but who wants to be caught dead in one? Ugliest.vehicle.ever!

I wanted one with the factory tent when new. Kinda still do. Any car you can sleep in has a place in my driveway.

I'm all for cars you can sleep in, just ones that look less like a pile of GM crap. I know other cars have had the ugly plastic side molding (Chevy Avalanche, Honda Element, probably others), but none of them have pulled it off as poorly as this abomination. But, as they say, to each his own!

Still no Cimarron enthusiasts. Woody is winning.
Well actually... I had an 87 cimarron once and i do still look for another one. They're definitely the coolest j-body ever made, with the 86 z24 hatch coming in 2nd in my book.
They have a good looking front end, lots of motor swap options, an 80's cool interior (mostly the dash), a kickin factory stereo, and the biggest swaybars you could get on a j-body ever. All they really need is wheels and to be de-chromed to look fairly good. For comparison i've owned several turbo chrysler new yorkers from the same period and honestly i think the cimarron is a much better-executed car in most ways, for the period.
Also, the aztec is a pretty cool car if you end up inside one and have no preconceptions. It's got a good interior, and it's decent to drive. Too bad it's got the 3.4 V6 pita in a pita engine bay.. and yes, most of them look terrible.

I finally drove a P71 a few months ago. What an epic pile of fail. I completely am perplexed why a vocal minority feel this car is the answer. I dont doubt that it can be made ok but out of the box it sucks. At least the miata is a pretty great car stock. The E30 is great except the steering rack. I have literally driven trucks with quicker steering ratios than E30s
See, you're looking at it wrong. Look at it as the family truckster: It can tow most things that most people will need, it can seat 5 large people in comfort, it can get 25 MPG on the highway (others will say higher, but in my experience with one that isn't likely), and it is about 10 times a better driving experience than most SUV's.
I'm going to agree with this. My dad has owned P71s since the 80's. It is a true utilitarian vehicle. It really does do just about everything. If you don't want an SUV, but want to be able to tow and have a back seat for the kids, it's the way to go. My dad has gotten some weird looks for the stuff he's towed with his over the years. Sure it's not a sports car, but they are cheap enough, that you could own one of those too.
Plus, RWD with an LSD in the snow = hella fun!
The p71 is the fat insecure girl you took to the prom. She was fun until you actually had something else to compare her slovenly kept fat ass too.

Come on, it's not THAT bad. The V6 is the same one that was in the SVT Contour, and mated to a stick (admittedly rare) it's a hell of a fun little car.

I wish I still had my B210. Practically gave it away to a club buddy's son and he wrapped it around a light pole.

Have you replaced a starter in one before? What a pain in the balls.

Yeah, maybe it's because I saw too many episodes of Ultraman as a kid, but I love that Rodan Meets Rocket Boy "style".

Have you tried working on one? Stupid stuff fails on them, and it's usually difficult and expensive.
About a month ago i started out putting a high pressure power steering line on one. After i replaced that line the smaller line that goes from the stupidly located pump to the high pressure line started leaking. 3" piece of line with some badly designed fittings on it, $100. Then after i replaced that the pump started leaking out the back. This was all before the car ever moved from where it was parked for the fix.
If someone on this forum had bought one for $1200 or $1500 dollars and then ended up spending $400-500 in power steering parts, and days waiting for that 3" piece, and getting frustrated at how goofy the design is, they would be crying bloody murder on here. And that's assuming none of the other goofy cougar E36 M3 happened to them.

Trust me. Don't piss off the Lumina fans.
yeah. well 95+ are total beige camry commuter class blend in stuff. but i've had plenty of fun with luminas.
1 was a 1994 euro 4 door. bright ass red, 3.1 dog. swapped out 140hp for 1991 215hp DOHC 3.4 and had some fun for a while. then it had a late model(at the time) 3400 pushrod engine.
2 was a 1993 Z34. extensive port work, shaved heads, changed cam timing, considerably more power than stock. it broke a rebuilt/upgraded trans and i had a complete 5 speed swap and was going to $2007 it, but when i tore it down to do the trans i found structural damage from a past accident.

Them's fightin' words, boy.
Cimmaron is pretty much a Cavalier, and they can be fun. I've spent time in three of them:
86 z24 (speedo randomly kept switching to kilometers/hour, rolled it on the Taconic Parkway)
82 base that I paid $100 for and drove for three years. Included in that time is a drive full of my stuff from NY to NC. It still ran when I sold it to buy my first RX-7 in 1997
96 (or 97?) that was my then girlfriends (now wife's) car, sold for a 2005 Mazda3 hatch, which was so superior to it in every way.
My vote for the "least likely to be the answer car" is a brand new Mercedes S class (or any high priced luxury car), unless the question is: "I want a terribly complex and heavy car that will lose most of its value the minute I sign the papers on it, what should I buy?"

On that we agree.
Suzuki Swift is never the answer here.
Of all the times I've recommended one to people looking for a dirt cheap, reliable, indestructible car that's great on gas, not a single person has taken me up on it.
Same here, but FWD Celica in my case. I recommended them and recommended them until i was blue in the face, nobody really has anything bad to say about them, only good things.
And none of you bastards will buy one.
Now... i buy this utter piece of E36 M3 of an MX6, and now half the board is rabid for them. Hell, mndsm bought one, and there's more people looking.
I don't get it. YOU'RE ALL DUMB. THE CELICA IS A BETTER CAR.
I bought it because you told me to, and I have a weakness for turbo Mazdas. You shouldn't have told me the damn thing was 10min from me.
