Locally a Legend car modified to run lapping days and regional racing (not SCCA) has come up for sale. It is very tempting as it would require a lot less trailer and tow vehicle than something that started life as a street car. But this has me wondering about other (cheaper) possibilities as Legends are a tightly controlled spec series. Which has led me to Mod Lites. 1+ litre water cooled bike motors and to be honest 1930's era cars don't do anything for me.
What would it take to make a Mod Lite turn left and right? Kevin Gale's build thread on his Troyer indicated it didn't take too much and an asymmetrical frame is not a significant issue:

What say the GRM brain trust? Brilliant? A fool's errand?

Fwiw, you can find plenty of 1st gen RX7 race cars in turn key condition for about $3k +/-.
Just putting it out there in case you didn't know.

Amg_rx7,
Up here in the great white north first gen rx7s have either marched down the periodic table into some form of oxide or are going for $20k so that thought had never crossed my mind. Any links or suggested hunting grounds for such a beast?
Most of them are shoddily constructed because circle tracks don't have the same safety concerns when it comes to cage construction.
Find a good one though and you're mint.
Never seen a poorly built mod lite. Ever.
They run at Merritville. You should go a few nights, have a look at some cars and talk to the drivers. It's a tight community. You might learn a lot or find a deal.

thanks Zomby Woof for the head's up about Merritville, Welland isn't that far to drive on a Saturday night. I took a look at Flamborough's schedule and didn't see any obvious references to Mod Lites.
They also run at Ohsweken a few times a year. That's a little closer for you. If you're looking for someone to go with, let me know. I don't get out to the dirt often enough.

These are New England based Pro 4 Modifieds. Smaller versions of a Nascar modified powered by four cylinder engines. I'm thinking there are wonderful possibilities as a hill climb/track day car. http://www.pro4mods.com/blog1/ Modifying these cars to turn left and right isn't difficult, so don't be scared.
Pro fours also run local to him. I was this >||< close to running that series a few years ago.

Zombie Wolf, we should try to meet up. Tattled Welder isn't on this board much but he is out in Waterdown / Clapison's Corners just minutes from Flamborough so I will do what I can to drag him out.
Dirt tracks don't do a lot for me but it's all racing so it's all good!
