We have a canopy that needs to be secured when used. We've been using the cheap generic 1" orange ratchet straps from Harbor Freight. SWMBO finds it difficult to open them all the way and get the straps to pull through to adjust the length. Are there any better quality versions of these with really smooth and easy ratchet mechanisms? Or some alternate solution?

IKEA sells or at least used to sell some nice euro production ones.

I was also going to say cam straps. If you secure them properly (google it) they won't slip loose. I use them to hold kayaks on my roof bars when driving 70+ MPH and they stay tight.

powertye

These are made here in the USA and really are very nice. I used to be a big supporter of another brand but have changed my buying to powertye for all new or replacement tie downs. Buy ones that make it easy for the both of you, they have some with clips that close so will not shake off if the unit lifts and falls and there easy to use.

The local euro motorcycle dealer sells the cam straps the bikes are shipped with for $1 each and they are good quality. You might check with local dealers to see if they do the same.
