Saw this at the local "All British Field Meet" a couple of weekends ago...I wish I had a fraction of the talent required to make that bodywork!

That's amazing.

...and two Elans!

And apparently they're both running! (Unless they were towed there.)

Yes, it's moderately shocking to see hundreds of running classic British cars all gathered together in one place!

And what makes it British?

The same thing that makes all of the other cars in attendance British.

That's clue #1 to figuring out what it is.

Looks like it could have started out as an aluminum bodied ginetta.

My guess would be a jag of some sort.

I'm not trying to swear, but those headlights sure look like some sort of Berkeley.

I wonder how much oil was dripped onto that poor lawn.

How can it really be British if it doesn't rust?

Daimler SP250.

Nope...But there were no fewer than 3 of those at the event.

I guessed Daimler because the centrally located carburettor(s) would rule out most fours and the Jaguar six. Plus, the Daimler is really ugly, so I could see tossing out the body for a special.

Now I think I see it: Lotus Eleven (with a Rover V8?).

Lotus 11. The fender flares hide it's shape a bit.

In reply to Woody:

Lotus did an 11 with an aluminum Chrysler Slant 6, so yeah I could see it.
