Try towing in a new truck. The rack and pinion steering, the lack of ford power steering pump whine, the comfortable seats, a/c, power windows, shocks that work properly, good chassis dynamics, all make for an awesome tow rig. I upgraded from a 97 F350SD with the 460 to an 09 F150 with 3 valve 4.6 and 6 speed auto tranny (which does have the ford power steering pump whine :(), oh my god it tows so much better. It doesnt knock on 87 when going up hills, it gets much better gas mileage, I dont get fatigued while towing so I can do the full 500 miles the tank of gas will do without stopping (15mpg towing an open trailer, and 38 gallon tank baby), it doesnt wander on the highway and need a billion steering wheel inputs to go straight, its quieter inside, the brakes are better, etc. I do wish it had sync rather than the base radio so that I could use a usb drive for music when going through those awful radio dead zones where there seems to only be country music.

Sorry, man, but you, and a lot of people on this board, are in the minority. It's amazing to see features that once were "suprise and delight" turn into "needs"- quite a few of them have happened since I've started working.

As far as I know, cars w/o nav and the screen are available.

But I will say that the back up camera will quickly become a need item on vehicles like this- they totally rock.

On the other hand, you missed the boat by:

20 years for a/c 15 years for crank windows in a pick up 5 years for hydralic PS 10 years for cable throttle

For most of those items, the replacement is cheaper and more reliable than the original- especially when factoring in the take rate.

Thanks for considering that you want a new car. Not sure why you think Detroit is the only driver, as I'm pretty sure you will have a tough time meeting your needs on ANY pick up that is new and sold in the US.

People do want this stuf. Heck, I'll admit getting the Ford Touch option on a Fiest that I JUST picked up this past Saturday.

Whenever car makers make something approaching what you want they don't sell, they sit around on lots and end up getting massively discounted, so they just don't make them anymore.

Exactly. One person - or even a thousand people - wanting something isn't enough. It needs to be what consumers that spend actual money on real new vehicles want. They sold 760,000 of these things last year so obviously they're meeting the market demand.

They used to make manual window no a/c v6 F150s and they didn't sell and became newspaper ad loss leaders for car lots. I remember a $10k F150 back in the late 90s and yet still they had trouble selling them. Face it, your idea of what they should make is not what enough people that buy cars actually want. Your war is over, pack it in. ;-)

Last car I got with manual windows and locks was my 2001 Focus. I wanted a yellow one and A/C was a must. It just happened that the only Yellow one in stock in all of SE Michigan at the time ( needed a new car so couldn't order one) was manual locks and windows. At the time I thought that was cool, but by the time I got rid of it I wish I'd had power windows, locks and mirrors, it was a pain without.

Considering that the current Tundra looks a lot like an F150, which came first, the chicken or egg?

Since the F150 outsells the Tunrda by a rather wide margin, I would say that the Tundra looks more F150 like than the other way around.

The 08 Focus had crank windows, but I doubt you could order it with ease without AC. I think 2014+ vehicles of the same caliber would be similar.

If you go to the Ford web site, a base model F150 has an option for a "power group" which includes power windows. This leads me to believe you can order a stripper F150 with roll up windows.

I would never by another new car without A/C or power windows. I'm also getting spoiled by the USB port and seat heaters.

The problem is that you mistake what YOU want for what EVERYONE wants. I would bet my own hard-earned money the vast majority of customers (you know people who actually buy new cars), couldn't care less about drive-by-wire or electric power steering, and they want power windows and A/C. Seriously? You're complaining that A/C is a standard item these days? And yes, you can also get a NEW F-150 without touchscreen navigation and a backup camera. But you would have actually needed to go to their web site to spec on out instead of just using endless hyperbole here.

Well, as someone planning a NEW car purchase, for myself, in the next 2 years or so, Im deeply saddened that in order to find a new car in my price rage, with real hydraulic power steering, cable throttle, and minimalist interior, I either need a DMC-12 and some weapons grade plutonium/Mr. Fusion to take me back to the mid 90's, or a DIY kit and a well equipped garage. Since I dont have either of those, Im going to settle...SETTLE...for (most likely) a Dart or a Cruze.

A modern version of the G20 I already drive would be great. Too bad I cant buy one of those. I have manual HVAC controls, no sunroof, no touchscreen, cable throttle, hydraulic power steering, cloth seats with manual controls, no foglights...its a stripper model. By todays standards, it would be a $15k car, tops. In its day, it was much more.

Anyway, not sure why Im arguing with you...youre not going to change my mind, and Im not going to change yours. I just get frustrated that Im forced to buy certain features, and I cant get the ones I want, at all, in general, from any maker.

I think you order a stripper as a work/fleet truck. I'm not sure what a stripped truck is these days though - it might cost extra to pay someone to take things out (like power windows) that are now part of the assembly line for all vehicles but I am positive you can get a rubber floor, bench seat, no ac truck because there is a demand from construction, DOTs, etc.

I'm OK with power windows, A/C, etc. It's the power leather seats, 1000w stereo, automatic lights/wipers/heater and every nanny monitor that bugs me.

That's MSRP. No one pays MSRP on a full-size truck. Around here the dealers are advertising fully loaded F150s in the $45k range. The Raptors are up in the 50s!

There just isn't a point in NOT having these simple things in this day and age. They don't break like they used to. Heated seats aren't really a "must" though until you start getting below -15*C on a regular basis (or have leather).

When I worked for the city of Red Deer, we started leasing most new vehicles. The few we owned typically had crank windows instead of power windows, but they still had MP3/CD (with input) and A/C. A decade or so ago, the city would PAY to have that stuff removed so civilians didn't get up in arms that the city workers had better stuff to work with then they did in their daily lives. I think that perception has changed a bit now though, plus the City realized that fake outrage over perceived benefits does not matter as much as they almighty dollar.

I just went to Ford's website and you can still buy a fleet regular cab F150 with manual locks and windows, manual A/C. I don't know what all the fuss is about...
