My wife's Jeep Liberty had the common blower resistor module failure. I used that as cover for installing the new Alpine iPod/Bluetooth capable head unit I bought from Crutchfield.
I got the wiring supplied harnesses spliced up, and went from this:
To this:
So I tell my wife to come check out the HVAC blower working on all speeds again. It took her a second to figure out that I had swapped out the stereo too. After an appropriate time of being surprised and impressed, she asked which CD I ejected from the old head unit before switching it. Doh!
Luckily, it only took 15 minutes to get the old unit hooked up, CD ejected, and get the new unit buttoned up again.
nice save! I need to replace the headunit in my rover.. CD changers are so old school (and a pain in the ass when they are under the passenger seat)

Yeah. It was one of her favorite CDs too.
I had never done a head unit swap on a car before, with what was provided with the unit, it was amazingly straight forward.
done that before......twice.
Happens to the guys in the shop sometimes too. Really embarrassing if the core unit has already shipped...

But if you end up reaching over to touch your passenger and get shut down, you can always play it off like, "oh no girl, I'm just reaching for the CD changer".
If it's a single CD unit, you don't need to hook it up. There's usually a button that you can access with a paper clip to manually eject the CD.
The techies updated the computers in my High School Mechanics shop, but didn't remove the AllData DVDs that were left in the drive by the students. Sadness.

It's what people put MP3s on before iPods...
Oh man I did the same for my wife a while back on her accord. Put a new head unit in with a front side usb port for her iphone to charge/play pandora and music.
Before saying thank you I got "Where's my Kenny Chesney CD?"
Same thing here when I put a Kenwood in the family Excursion. Easiest thing was to just plug it back in temporarily to eject the disc.
One major benefit was getting rid of the 6-CD changer that was taking up half of the center console. My 200++ CD changer now look like this:
The nice thing about Crutchfield is that they include pretty much everything for a perfectly smooth install. Add on top that pretty much any name brand head unit will sound 1000% better than the stock unit helps out a ton, too.
I still hate the MP3 thing.

it's a round shiny coaster/frisbee looking thing that some people think is better than cassettes for some reason.
This NWA part goes through my head every time I hear a reference to an Alpine stereo:
Donald B's in the place to give me the pace
He said my man JB is on freebase
The boy JB was a friend of mine
Til I caught him in my car trying to steal my Alpine
Sorry for the obscure reference...
