OK a bit of a thread jack and speaking of swaps, oldeskewltoy can you detail the miata transmission swap you did on your ride?

Well........ after 4 years... and way too much $$... it is NOT finished.
I'm currently still using a T50
That is where we are currently...
The adapter, and the lengthened input shaft are finished. What failed and is the current hang-up was shortening the shifter position....
I'm out of money, and the shop I commissioned to do the work has pretty much washed its hands of it, SOOO I need to find someone else to finish, what in essence is a project 85% complete.
Concerning tha "discussion" of Celica vs Corolla... its a matter of mass. I've always been one to recommend avoiding swaps in rwd Corollas because of screwing up the balance.
On a Celica... I believe a swap is the PERFECT answer... and not for a twin cam, nor for a boosted JZ... As I see it, the Celica would do wonderful with a small block... Ford, Chevy, or Toyota "V" series engine. Personally, I'd import a 5V EFI engine and slip it into the Celica

AE86s come and go around the midwest. One week there will be 9, the next week all you see are WTB ads. Have you installed the craigslist add on for firefox etc that was posted here a week or 2 ago? Its a HUGE help. Anyway, heres what I found within 500 miles of Cinci:
http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/cto/2310248700.html
http://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/2306201705.html
not too much, but both seem like realistic prices and decent descriptions or pics. This time last year, I remember there being 6 or 7 really decent options on CL alone within a few hours drive of Cincinnati. now, you gotta drive to Chicago or St Louis etc. Give it a week, there could be a whole different group to look at...
As far as building options, a mildly boosted 20v 4a motor gets you into the early 200s at the wheels. Thats more than enough to make a AE86 fun, but not be a strung out fiend. Its a really capable Chassis. Personally, id rather get a good, clean, stripped out roller, and add in my own kibbles and bits until I have what I want, not a ratty, warmed over version of someone elses unfinished project. And the 2z swap has been done, a lot. Its almost too much for the car, and is pretty heavy, which can ruin the balance. Ive never owned a 2z swapped AE86 ( or any AE86 for that matter), but thats what I read all over the place. Stick to a light 4 banger, build it for about 200 RWHP, and have fun all day, and still get better fuel economy than a vanilla camry.
The 2zz IS a light 4-banger.
It's like the 4age.... but better.
DOH...read 2Jz...woops...yep, 2zz=good choice
Spend 1k more and get a roll cage and a sorted car:

Can this be a 'post your AE86' thread? :D

"new celica supra rearend and lower controll arm."
See? You put enough Celica parts on one and they get pretty good!

I feel like this is the default state that all AE86 should be in.
Yinz have convinced me that a non AE86 in the hopes of doing a swap is bad idea, at least at this price. There's a nice looking 944 S near me for >$5000. 130,000 miles, but recent timing belt replacement and looks clean in the craigslist picture.

944 will probably have more rear grip. AE86s seem to have a problem with that.
You know, that sounds stupid even to me. Why. Why must I post things like that?
You know I probably would've taken a 944 over an 86 before I drove an 86. The sound mine makes through the HKS exhaust from 4k-7200 RPM is one of the most wonderful things around. Also go fast parts are dirt cheap. I had always driven european cars until this corolla and I can't believe the bang for the buck when it comes to certain parts... Also you can get everything at autozone something I havent been able to say about the BMW's and P cars ive owned.
http://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/2306201705.html I know its not too nice but this is more reasonable for an SR, I would still try to talk him down to 400 though...
I can't quite get everything I've needed at AutoZone but... the sound it makes from the 3rd to 4th shift is preeeeeetty amazing considering the sounds you get from, say, Honda's 1.6 of the era.
Yeah the Advance Auto here in town has been able to get all the service parts i've needed some stuff I know is hard to find but all of it is closer at hand than porsche/bmw stuff. My ride to work in the morning goes through a state park with a higher than advisable in an suv speed limit and 20 foot high sand dunes on both sides that act like a tunnel, it starts my day off right revving through there even though my car does need some work to get it where I would like it to be.
