I want one. One is for sale near me. Wife does not like this idea.
Option 1 is buy the wife something so that she doesn't mind you buying the Eagle.
Option 2 is buy the Eagle and live in it until your divorce is final.
Don't know how much you like your wife but if she's like my ex I'd choose 2.
Back in the day my uncle bought a new AMC Concorde wagon and put a header and custom exhaust on it. I remember it sounding awesome and I wondered why my dad didn't put headers on his cars then.
I've already sold my black 940 turbo wagon. That made her happy. I have a red one that is going to be gone soon. This happiness should be able to withstand an eagle.
99.9% of the E36 M3 heaps on Craigslist that make me go "Hey look at this!" to the gf are met with criticism. Few, if any, have drawn the level of ire that the AMC Eagle has.
I say do it
Had an '87 wagon, one of the best cars I've ever owned, practical to a fault. I'd own another if I could find a good one, they're long gone here though. I don't understand her dislike other than maybe being an older car.
Eagles are friggin awesome. There is a high school kid that drives one in the town I work in. Its nice enough to not be embarrassed of, but junky enough to beat on it once in a while. I'm super jealous everytime I see it.
My uncle had one when i was a kid. Spent lots of hours in it going up and down the mountainside to visit my grandmother. Cool cars and always made the locals in there big trucks look at you funny.
I suspect her objection has nothing to do with the Eagle's mechanical awesomeness and usefulness, and everything to do with her thinking they are just plain fugly.
If you can find a clean SX4 instead of a wagon, they are better looking. Particularly in a good color, instead of the various shades of brown and tan from the 70's.

Some fix for you.
Try it. Try introduceing her as your "first wife".
It goes over really well
Substitute in "current wife" if she is not really your first wife.

Maybe an SX/4 then? Surely not an Eagle Kammback.
It's a blue wagon, owned since new by a little old lady who died. Relative said vehicle was in a garage for awhile and wouldn't start. He says he put in a new battery and it started fine, he then went to change the oil and it runs fine. 82k miles,1982 model, no rust, inline 6 engine. He says he did research online and found that they are highly sought after and has seen them sell for 12-15k. He wants 4k. (Not sure why he's not asking, 12-15k)
Probably because he wants it gone more than he wants the money. Sure, they might be going for 12-15k, but how long will it take and how many people are going to be looking for service records that he probably doesn't have?
On ebay BIN $7350
One owner, garage kept, rust free, dealer maintained, loaded, leather, new tires n brakes, 56K miles. You'd be hard pressed to find a nicer example after all these years. Located in Conn.

There's a similar looking car listed in auction, not even close to this condition.
BTW, I really wanna see what a $12-15K car looks like.

Having been very closely involved with a '74 Hornet Sportabout, I will never understand this mentality.

I'd like a Hornet Sportabout, with a 360 or 401 under the hood. It's one of my disturbed automotive "sleeper" ideas.
High five to the Eagle also.
Showed my wife some pics and she actually likes it. Will be on my short list of family adventuremobiles once my kids get old enough. Anyone know if they do OK when towing I'll need something to tow a small trailer with my MR2 on it.
Okay so learn me on these cars. I'm trying to narrow down what semi vintage car I would want to drive across country on my trek to visit as many of our nations parks and monuments. I also think that driving an AMC would be almost the most American thing I could drive. I'd want the wagon version in case I want to camp out in it for a night or two. So would one of these be pretty easy to maintain and actually make a 2600 mile trip?
