At least the Corvette used only one spring per axle, to minimize weight.

 

We shan't speak of all the Cobras out there that used the transverse leaf spring as the "upper control arms", to minimize weight too much.

The Panhard used 2 transverse leaf springs and they're essentially the control arms too

Nothing new to see here.    The late 50's/early '60's Goliath/Borgward Hansa 1100 had a similar set up in the front. It was FWD.
