it was answered before but I wanted explain my reasoning for it better. The motor is kind of mounted on stilts. it's just the way it worked out fitting the whole thing in the car.
and to remove any kind of side to side potential movement i wanted to add something to keep it from moving.
but because this car will be used for stage rally there is always a chance of some body damage or one of the towers being pushed in. this way if i do have some tower deflection all will happen is the chain will go slack, versus if i had a more solid mount it could shove the motor..
The chain will want to twist/rock the motor mounts more, I think. It's been a while since I've had a Subaru engine out, is there enough room to stick a chunk of metal between the two mounting points?
Unfortunately the upper picture is about all I can do. There is an oil pan in the way. The chains arent tight by any means, so there is room to twist a little bit, it's for any kind of side to side movement. In all reality I probably don't need them, it was just something I thought about one day and added them.
