Two names linked to American racing–Andretti and GM–plan to enter Formula 1. They look to compete under the Cadillac brand, and with at least one American driver.

The team will be based in the U.S., with a support facility in the U.K.

To compete in Formula 1, the Andretti Cadillac team will submit an “Expression of Interest when the …

Not sure I am excited yet. Once they get all the approvals I will be able to feel it is more than a exploration of possible entry.

I do hope they get on the grid!

If Cadillac goes all electric shouldn't they race in Formula E?

For nostalgia reasons it would be neat if they could somehow include Gurney's All American Racers as a minority partner.

Haas F1 has been running since the 2016 season and is HQ'd outside of Charlotte, but another American program would be nice to see in my opinion.

Yeah but the last few seasons running the red white and blue in Russians order sorta took the shine off that for me.

The way EV is being used these days, HEV is and EV, therefore F1 is a field of EVs.

Basucally, going all electric does not mean a complete fleet of BEVs.

Might as well throw the whole FIA out of your wheelhouse if Russian oligarch money is the straw that breaks your back for Haas.

Looks like the FIA is on board. F1 is being much less optimistic.

I am hearing this is the case, but if so, would seem odd with Cadillac also attached to the Andretti team.

GM has some kind of partnership with Honda.  Which kind of makes the competition in Indycar interesting....

Correct, they have partnered up for efforts to co-develop EVs. Who knows, the agreement to put GM EV tech into a Honda chassis, might have been reliant on Honda potentially providing a proven F1 powerplant for GMs efforts. To me, Honda partnering with GM, really dilutes their appeal as an independent brand; but, hey people think that EVs are somehow going to save the planet, so I guess they are doing whatever they can to get a piece of that market share while its hot.

I think they're planning heavily revised power units in 2025 or so. Probably not worth the time and effort to develop a new engine/power unit for 1 or two seasons when other off the shelf options are available. That way they can devote resources to designing/developing a power unit for 2025.
Or maybe it's all just branding for Cadillac, and GM won't bother doing their own powerplant.

Still sounds like the existing teams don't want to split the pie any more than they already are: https://the-race.com/formula-1/andretti-cadillac-plan-still-faces-substantial-f1-opposition/

Couple thoughts on this. One, giving the teams this much power is a bad idea. Look how letting the inmates run the asylum worked out for CART. And two, did Andretti not at least get the pulse of the existing teams before going public with this?

In the end this decision isant up to the teams or fom. It's up to the fia just like the rules and all sporting regs.

Actually, the teams have a say and a vote in all of those things you listed.
