During the annual Sick Week, a five-day-long drag-and-drive competition, longtime $2000 Challenge competitor Andrew Nelson crashed a Vortec 4200-powered Volvo PV5444.
According to a Facebook post by Andrew’s son Calvin, Andrew is banged up but okay:
We’re relieved to hear that Andrew is stable, and all of us here at Grassroots Motorsports wish him a speedy recovery.

So glad that he's going to be okay! That was a horrific wreck and the safety program the Nelson's did (car and PPE) definitely saved his life. Here's to a fast and complete recovery!
And this is why most of us here tout safety. Even the very best of us can get snake bit.
Best wishes and speedy recovery.
Whoa that was a big crash
Yikes! So glad that he is okay. My PV544 was skittery in a crosswind, and I never got it over 80 MPH, much less a 9.1 quarter!
Glad to hear that he's OK!

That is the most severe bank-shot I have ever seen. I was expecting to see an in-lane pole-vault with maybe a right hand side exit, not an off-track parabolic arrival at the other side of the track.
Cage did what cage is supposed to do...good.
Ooooof. Scary!!! Wish I could see more of what happened. So glad he's okay!!!

Prayers for a speedy recovery. Many blessings, Andrew. To you and your family!
Best wishes to Andrew for a smooth recovery! That was an incredibly violent crash, and a testament to the safety equipment and the Nelsons' renowned fabrication skills!
That was a wild ride. I'm glad Andrew made it out relatively okay, and it sounds like he should make a good recovery.
Damn. Glad to hear he's OK.
Wow, that was hard to see, and am very thankful that Andrew is in pretty darned good shape considering that wreck.
Andrew, you and your son are obviously great fabricators.

I'm so glad he's okay
Any idea what happened? I saw an accident one time like that in pro stock when a brake rotor failed and locked that corner. The replay didn't show much on the top end but obviously he crossed the track pretty quickly.
Thank God the car was built well, truly a testament to their thoroughness.
Here's to a complete, full and speedy recovery. In addition to speed, I've always respected you all for your emphasis with regards to safety as well. I'm sad that the emphasis has shown it's value, but am glad that it's been something that has always been something of the utmost deserved respect with regards to your builds.
So happy to hear that it wasn't worse. Andrew, I hope you feel better quickly!!
Thanks for bringing this to the board's attention, Colin.
I'll agree with others here, that I hope for a complete recovery... and that I'm glad their fabrication, expertise and attention to detail, give us hope that it will be.
Glad to hear that he is going to be ok. That was a rough ride.

Look up my friend of mine, Frank Soldridge, on the tubes of you. He so the same impact into the same wall just at the 1/8th mile mark at 200mph after a door blew off.
In reply to John Welsh :
Notice the cage is not shifted in any direction. The body panels on the other hand go any direction plus smashed in.
