Yikes!

I just got one of the lennox versions for myself to try. Also has the notches. Scary.

The first trailer I built with my plasma torch paid for the torch in savings on abrasive discs and sawzall blades.

If it's any consolation I can verify that the old school discs also deserve an A+ on flesh cutting

In my experience the old school discs are a B at best at deep flesh removal.  The new diamond disc also gets bonus points for partial cauterization.

Regardless of disc, I've found you always always always want the disc rotating such that it's pulling the grinder away from your body.  If the wheel is spinning "in", that is, pushing toward you, the likelihood of something going wrong increases dramatically.  I also tend to wear leather welding gloves when using the A/G.  Or, really, any power tool besides a drill.

But, even though the injury was probably due to operator error, don't feel too bad.  I have a nice scar across my wrist from a "probably my fault" sawzall injury a few years back.  First time I ever needed stitches.  On the plus side, I learned that it's wholly unnecessary to go back to the doctor to get the stitches taken out.  A needle, some rubbing alcohol*, a tweezers, and a steady hand works just fine.

*or, lacking that, Vodka

They are generally A+ at cauterizing also...
