Continuing on with the trivia question regarding which late model cars use 7" round headlights, who knows which were the last cars to have pop-up headlights? It is my understanding that they are no longer allowed to be produced, which would explain why I haven't seen them on anything recently.

My current car (Miata) and previous car (Corolla GT-S) both have them, which I actually like.

Mark.

I believe the last year of the MR2 (sw20) was the last car to have them. They went to 1998 overseas.

I missed the conversation on 7" round headlights, got a link for that one?

Having had a few cars with pop up headlights, the ONLY thing I like about them is that they usually clean up the looks of the car when the lights are off. Everything else pretty much sucks about them (weight, complexity, maintenance, lighting performance, looks with lights up, etc.). Although they're not the newest, the Opel GT pop up (roll over?) lights are probably my favorite pop-up design.

I think the thread was titled "trivia" or something

FD RX-7 stayed in production in Japan with pop-ups until the early 2000's.

Firebird had them until the end in 2002.

Corvette until the end of C5 in 2004.

Wikipedia agrees with 2004, and has a neat list of cars with pop up headlights. The 928 was also unique in its exposed-but-popup design. And check this out: A Honda Scooter with a pop-up headlight!

Now the question is, how many cars had hidden headlights, ala the Charger and Camaro? Headlights were fixed, but they have moveable covers.

Some I can see missing from that list include the '69 Camaro RS and the late '70s Dodge St. Regis.

83 Thunderbird had 4 fixed sealed-beams. That list is shaky at best...

Charger (66-70) had hidden lights standard. GTO had the option from 68-69. 67-68 Camaro RS option had them. 69 Camaro with the RS option had unique hidden lights that had a three-bar clear cover.
