I just picked up a 91 Volvo 745 Turbo over the weekend. 226k miles and well under challenge budget.
It needs a few minor things but is very clean for and Ohio car and runs great.

Im in the cincinnati area and I've had my turbo brick for a couple years. Good find, looks very clean, show us the interior
Initial driving impressions are it needs a lot more boost and a third pedal to be fun. In stock form with the automatic it is just fast enough to be moderately enjoyable and a comfortable cruiser.
The plan for it over the next year or so is:
Tune-up and turn up the boost
Manual swap, either Volvo manual or T5
Suspension parts from IPD
And put on the "Prancing Moose" decals I have on order.
whoa... someone did a very good detail job :)... and you paid a bit less then mine and looks to be in a lot better condition... in reality I paid for the maintenance that has been done and the mods lol)
a little more boost makes a BIG difference (post stage 0)... and making an exhaust for these things is pretty easy... a manual gearbox would be a lot more fun... as long as it doesn't die... i've got one and i'm quasi looking for the manual trans bits as it stands... just a matter of finding the parts in a JY lol... oh well
I saw a manual one of these on CL yesterday. I was very tempted.
Edit - It is an '88. Here is linky:

Wow,new to volvo's but compared to the 850 turbo I just picked up the engine in that thing is TINY. I just bypassed the a/c compressor today, there's less room from the end of the engine to the chassis than the width of the 6 rib belt I was changing. You could stand beside yours to work on it which is sweet.
Hmm...
79 Mercedes 280SE
94 Jetta VR6
90 Miata
92 Miata
92 Volvo 745 Turbo
Not too many . Of course two of those were parts cars (Jetta and 92 Miata).
I do not need another car.
I do not need another car.

I do not need another car.
Y'all aren't helping any.
I just adjusted the wategate on the 850(stock boost still)and its so much better off the line now.Gotta be careful with the throttle making lefts thru intersections,or roll the window up to stop the tire smoke from choking me.
