Train wrecks get lots of attention too. That thing is hideous. Its not even a rat-rod, its just an ugly truck/car in primer.

For sale? I'd buy it just for the engine to install in something more worthy.

Gee, tough crowd. It's a Rat Rod, for Pete's sake. Or a fake Rat Rod, or whatever. It's supposed to look awful. I kinda like the "wrecker" joke.

some people don't have the eye to build them correctly.

My step father told me he could have bought this for $900. I doubt that was recently.

crappy flat black paint does not a rat rod make.. but then again, i suppose i should start calling my black spray bomb primered 86 Camaro a rat rod to make it seem cooler than it really is..

I'd dump the "Wrecker" add on, and just run the rest ragged.

it probably cost too much to build to be run ragged.

Seems like the perfect tow vehicle for vintage racing this

That is horrible. Calling something a "rat rod" doesn't excuse flat-out ugliness. As best I can tell it's a Deuce grille shell ahead of a very hacked up 46-48 Ford sedan or maybe even coupe body.

It is amazing what sins are forgiven by ok by calling it "rat rod". Rat has gone from a a style to an excuse for not trying.

That tow line wouldn't hold a pan of kitty litter. That pulley is decorative trash held up by some hot rolled strap.

"It's a lifestyle..." Sorry, couldn't resist. Agreed, dump the wrecker portion of it....otherwise, it's not all that bad. You could drive it in the rain and not get wet--lots rat rods can't say that. The guy gets credit for at least building it, showing it, and ..there are no windshield wipers. Well, at least he built it,
But I'd rather have the vintage modified!!!

You can put lake pipes and baby moons on a '59 Rambler, paint it flat black and call it a rod, but it's still a frigging flathead Rambler.

The guy who put that "winch" together was in a big hurry and didn't have much to work with. I wouldn't tow my lawn mower with that thing, but I would drive it up the street. May not look like much, but with a 454, I suspect it'll light the tires up pretty much any time you want.

Rock it.

might not even be a 454- it could very well be a 366 out of a dump truck or something dressed up all pretty. or it could be a low perf 396 out of an Impala..

There's a big difference between a Rat Rod and an old piece of crap.

Wait, there's rules for what is and isn't a rat rod now? When did that start?

Actually, I think they're the same thing...a rat rod generally refers to a car that was thrown together with poor workmanship and not much style (except for a lot of iron crosses and rats painted everywhere.) Now, a traditional hot rod may be weathered and rusty, but it's built to be safe and reliable and isn't just a bunch of parts tacked together in a random fashion.

I disagree with your position on poor workmanship.
