The time has come to buy a new set of street/autox/hpde tires that will last me another 3-4 years. Once they go on, they won't come off the car. The car is driven to events. In the past I've used Azenis 615s. I am looking at the Direzza Z2 as the strongest contender right now, but they don't come in 275 sizes for 17" wheels like the Azenis did. I can downsize to 255s but if there's another tire I should be looking at, I'd like to know. Thoughts?

The RE-11 is a similar tire I was looking at, the Kumho XS is also supposed to be similar but reviewers say the tire is generally not that great until you get into a really hard corner.

The fast guy in STF locally is running BFG's, the Rival maybe? Whatever the new ST hotness tire is. He swears by them and says they're fast.

Rivals do seem to be fast but look like they won't work in the rain very well. I'd go to the 255 ZII

Definitely read Andy Hollis' Street tire review: https://www.facebook.com/notes/hollis-racing/street-tire-faq-part-ii2013/409412972476008

It looks like the Rival doesn't come in 275 sizes for 17" wheels either. I guess 17's are "too small" these days and are getting phased out of the lineups? ::sigh::

^No I think they are just doing a limited size release to begin with. 17s are still very much a viable choice for performance tires.

275 isn't legal width in any Auto-X class is it?

sure .. stock ... street tire stock .... don't know if legal for any ST class ( mine is 225 ... but we're the smallest )

actually in Stock class things like the 'Vettes run 300+

I know of a national trophy winner that crammed at least 275's onto 6 1/2" rims on his ITR .. DS .

So, any of these besides the DII going to come in 14"?
Guess it's about time I get a set of 15" rims for the NB Miata.

I'm not an Auto-Xer, but I thought stock class folks were using the purple crack.

Seriously watching these new tire debuts, and seriously frustrated. The 1994 C4 Vette I bought last October (and has been in the garage all winter) will need street tires this summer, and I'd like to stick with stock size for classing purposes when I run with the local-ish NCCC club - but try finding 255 and 285 section width, 17 inch diameter sticky street tires, most manufacturers stop at around 245. Right now you're pretty much limited to Kumho Ecsta XS or the Continental DWs. I could go down to 275s on the rear for NCCC, but they are no easier to find. If it was a 96 Grand Sport I'd be looking for 315s, wouldn't that be fun (and expensive).

I think the ST classes are why you don't see anything wider than a 265 in a 17. Most of those classes are limited to 255/17 and one for sure (STX I think?) can go 265. Maybe if RTR becomes more popular after this year you might see some wider tires come out for the vettes.
