Just looking for some real world experiences with the 1st gen CTS-V. They've gotten very affordable. Considering they were around $50k new. Looks like a guy could pick up a decent one for $12-ish?
I see there are a few solutions in the aftermarket for the rear diff now, though they are a bit spendy. From what I see on the intarweb that was really the only serious weakness.
Any other thoughts on these?
there was a buyers guide in grm around september (?) last year: the short of it: do it!
what kinda mileage would be $12-ish?
I know a guy who had one & the engine let go idling in traffic. I don't remember the details of the failure, but it was just his daily-driver, not any kind of autox/track-toy.
Considering I've never heard of it happening to anyone else, I think it was just a fluke.
Yeah there's a few on the board who have bought them in the past couple years. They are a serious bargain. As noted, GRM did a buyer's guide (September sounds right).
The '04 and '05 cars are the 5.7, and the '06/'07 got the 6.0. Same power #'s. all are 6-speeds.
They can be found very reasonable now.

A friend of mine used to have one. It was putting down more than stock power. He ended up getting rid of it for a new Cayman.

I had an 05. They have amazing brakes, and the LS6 is a genuinely great engine. Driving one is a very pleasant experience
Unfortunately, you really can't launch it hard at all. I don't think I ever got a 60-foot time better than 2.20 at the drag strip. The radiators tend to crack and leak, and I broke the motor mounts on mine, too. The interior is very plastic-y, but considering the depreciation factor, it's not that big a deal.
All in all, it's a great daily driver, but it's more fun to drive than it is to live with.

Sounds like most Cadillacs I've ever owned

Echoed.
All of the "issues" of the CTS-V have improved aftermarket solutions.
If you purchase one, I suggest (at a minimum):
- Aluminum radiator with belts and tensioners
- Replace motor and transmission mount
- Creative-Steel's diff mount
If it needs a clutch, get the LS7 flywheel and clutch . . . Good luck!!!
