Is it weird that I still think the 456 is one of the better looking 'modern' Ferraris? What does it say about me that as a 15-16 year old when these came out, I wanted one of these 'old man' Ferraris over their more sporting models?

"Top Gear" and "Prove" shouldn't be in the same sentence, other than perhaps "Top Gear proves to be exceptional entertainment but should not be taken as factual."
It's TV, they dramatize things and even completely fake them if the truth isn't dramatic enough. It's like watching House MD to learn medicine.
I always liked the 456 as well.
Decent 456s are in the 40s now. They drive nice.

They do right up until the window regulators fail and you see just how expensive a Ferrari can be to repair.
The 456 at 40K would end up running you morw in the long run then a solid but not perfect 550.
The 550 also makes a nice looking race car.
