The current book shows no service intervals which will play into the unscrupulous dealers hands. Mine was nasty when changed at 52000.
I am considering buying the wife a new Mazda5 with a manual trans. Is there anything I should know about these before I buy one. What are the known issues. For people that own them are you happy with it?
I am mostly happy with mine so far. Its a 2012 with a 6-speed stick currently at 25K. Only thing I have to report is that I hate the clutch on that thing, because it's impossible to take-off smoothly and the paint scratches if you look at it funny.

Yeah, what's up with Mazda and paint? Our CX-5 seems to have about 1 micron worth of paint on it.

I have the same car; 54k now. It has had the 1and 2 synchros and the second gear replaced under warranty. Otherwise it's been good and the truth is that I have a short shifter on it that may have contributed to that issue.

I was kind of specifically looking for your input. Thx man. 
You can have aftermarket leather put in it, which is usually better than OEM mid level quality, for reasonable prices. When I worked at a Toyota dealer we did it all the time.
