Harrisburg, PA and surrounding area folks: I may have a line on a mid-'90s Civic DX for sale for very very cheap, probably on sale in a few months. That probably isn't enough time for the $2012 Challenge, but maybe the following year, assuming the world doesn't end.
A co-worker owns it, and he just got a big promotion to a sales gig, which means he'll be buying a new car quite soon.
The good:
- It's a Civic- Lego-like parts swapability
- It's a 2-door
- It's a manual trans, newer clutch
- Manual everything- steering, windows, locks, the thing can't weigh 2300 lbs total
- He only paid $400 for it, and it was just in a minor front-end (cosmetic only) accident, so I'm thinking $200 isn't out of the realm of possibility, especially since we're friends and he knows I'm a car nut
The bad:
- It's trashed, inside and out- it's always parked under a tree and hasn't been washed in at least a year, ditto for vacuuming
- Some body panels are under attack by the ol' tin worm
- It's the 1.5 DX...slllllllllow, will need a 'B' engine or snail to be competitive
- It has well over 200K miles, so probably everything in the wheel wells is junk, and I'm pretty sure the engine leaks oil
I don't have a garage, but I do have a pretty decent set of hand tools, plus an angle grinder and a power drill, and I have an engine stand at home. I know how to solder and weld (basic stuff, anyway), and I've rebuilt engines and changed clutches and pretty much replaced every part ever on a Saturn. My car has a trailer hitch, so parts runs up at Harry's in Hazleton are totally possible.
What say you?
