We replaced the clutch on my wife's 2003 Vibe about 3 months ago, which included refilling the 6 speed trans with synchromesh as is commonly recommended for these cars by monkey wrench racing and everyone else for street only use. It had a very slight seepage out the bottom of the trans with whatever stinky gear oil was in there before and no discernible fluid level change over 3 years. But it is much more pronounced now with the synchromesh. (shifts great though!)
I guess step one is to refill the thing with redline MT-90 or other heavy weight gear oil which ought to leak out a whole lot slower, but there is NO way I am dropping the trans again and splitting the case to repair this the right way. Are there any other solutions I am not thinking of? Any snake oil product for in the trans that actually works, or any externally applied sealant that will adhere to an aluminum surface with oil seeping through it?

I don't care if it makes its territory a little, I care if it starts leaking faster and subsequently blows up.
Clean it up really well and slather it down with some good silicone...or JB Weld. JB Weld fixes everything.
If it's just leaking from the flange between the case (where there is usually only a factory silicone gasket,) I don't think it would leak catastrophically. You might check that the case half bolts are snug.
Any chance it's overfilled?
Lucas Transmission stopleak. Snake oil. What could it hurt?
Make sure the case bolts are tight.
I didn't know they offered a manual trans in these.
In other news, I have nothing to offer to this conversation.

I will check case bolts tonight and if JB Weld/silicone will stick, sure! I was thinking that no matter how well I prep the surface, continuing seepage during the cure time would kill the bond. It makes about a quarter size puddle on the ground in 48 hours which I think is significant for a transaxle with only 2 quarts in it and no dipstick for easy checking. If it was engine oil I'd not care.
Not overfull, it was filled from the fill hole while in the car, level.
In reply to gearheadmb:
The GT got a 2zz with a 6 speed. It's just like an Elise! A...backwards, overweight, softly sprung potato-shaped one.

A quarter size puddle? Thats a leak, not seapage. Sounds like enough where I would be constantly wondering how much fluid is left in the trans. That would make driving it horrible.
As much as it sucks, I would pull the trans and reseal it. Might as well do the clutch and rear main, and front and rear seal of the trans while you're in there. Or sell it if the car isn't worth that level of effort.

Yep, I referred to what it did before as seepage. Now it is definitely a leak, see thread title. :p
Just did the clutch a few months ago and pulling and R&Ring the trans is a substantial undertaking that sucked in many ways. I would very likely sell it before doing that again. Heavier oil, JB weld, bolts tight, etc will come first.
Clean and identify where the leak actually is before attempting to rectify. It can make a difference.
We've been finding that the synthetic gear lubes seem to expand more when hot than the old dinosaur juice does which adds to the leaking problems.
Give it a couple weeks and see if it finds it's own level before you freak out.
Place a single drop of fluid onto the ground and watch how far it expands while it thins, that's still seepage
