My wife has a 2008 Mazda 3 wagon, 98k miles, 5spd. Currently the a/c is not working, it appears to have a good charge, but I think the compressor is out or not turning on. One thing is I'm looking for the Factory Service Manual for this model. I've been to several different Mazda 3 related forums, but all seem to have dead links. Anyone have access to a FSM? If so could they let me know.

Second, when it comes to repairing the a/c, and let me note, I've not done anything a/c related before, but it is my understanding that if the compressor is bad and needs to be replaced that I need to discharge the a/c system first. What type of storage system do I use to collect the refrigerant in the system? Do I reuse the old refrigerant or just fill with new?

I've tried to see about getting the compressor to turn on by running the car and leaving the a/c on, but nothing happens. I can't get the compressor to engage by just running the car. Is there a way to "jump start" the compressor?

I've checked fuses and relays and they all appear good. No other warning of it going out, it just kind of went.

Thanks in advance

I have the factory manual but not sure for which year range. I'll look for it and get back to you. Check out the mazda3forums and mazdas247.com if you haven't already.

Just going out on a limb, but you didn't lose the belt for the compressor did you?

I have a hard copy of the 2006 Mazda 3 manual. Flip me a message and let me know what you'd like to see specifically. I'm not sure how big the whole climate control section is.

You'll need to log in to post.
