I have one. Runs good. Came from a 2005 MPV.

Factory was 200 hp, 200 lb/ft.

Any good ideas?

BTW, I'm not trying to make an MPV go fast.

I'm trying to decide if there is any reason to use this engine in something else- maybe the Miata I have in my garage?

The original Noble used a version of that with a couple turbos. That is all I have. I think the SVT contour guys are the best place for development on that engine.

I saw someone who took the Lincoln LS longitundinal version of that engine and swapped it into a Miata. A good poor-man's alternative to the Honda J-series.

The aftermarket for that engine (which was never huge), has largely dried out. Used to be you could get 25-30 hp out of headers, Y-Pipe, and a tune, but the headers were too expensive for most people who were enthusiasts in that engine so it never really caught on. Vortech made a supercharger for the Ford version of the engine a LONG time ago (it was made for the Contour/Cougar 2.5L but fits on a Taurus/Escape block with virtually no modifications). There were also a handful of turbo kits for the V6 Contour and V6 Mazda 6 but they never really caught on and I would wager fewer than a dozen exist.

The transmission from a 2.3L Duratec Ranger should bolt up or a T5 from a V6 Mustang should bolt to it. FWD manual transmissions are more limited, to the MTX-75 from a Contour or Cougar or the manual from a Mazda 6 V6 which used an adapter plate from the factory will bolt to it.

Contour SVT cams, tune, and forced induction . . . That's about it.

However, the SVT cams have been a BIG discussion point as Ford made a lot changes in port design (split port vs oval port) between the Duratec 25 and 30. Head over to contour.org for more details.

The Getrag 221 trans (other manual bits) is the hardest piece of the puzzle. But, if you are good at making adapter plates, that wouldn't be an issue.

A T-5 doesn't have a factory bellhousing to match any USDM Duratec. The 2.0/2.3/2.5 I4 Duratec bellhousing pattern is not the same as the 2.5/3.0 V6 Duratec. The newer 3.5/3.7 Cyclone and the 1.0/1.6 Duratec/EcoBoost are different still.

I think the only 2.5/3.0 Duratec factory longitudinal rwd manual transmissions available is the Getrag 221 from the LS.

Ford did that back in 2002. And when I say Ford, I specifically mean Advanced Powertrain did that.

It was a hoot to drive.
