+2 for the audio book, I listened to it several times through back when I had an hour long commute.

The paperback (pocket) version is pretty affordable at $30 or so:

That said, the "racers version" has a ton of fantastic photography.
Although the editing isn't perfect (or close to perfect), keep in mind there is no ghostwriter. These stories come directly from Smokey's mouth and mind.
Incredible life, amazing stories--- one of the best automotive books I've ever read.

PM Sent. It always strikes me as funny to post to a thread saying you've sent a private message, but I guess they fail some nonzero percent of the time...

Joe, I'll be there for the Rolex ... where is their store ? Trish mentioned buying it there ( save shipping ) .. the web site doesn't mention an address
Keith Tanner wrote: If $22 is "bloody expensive" (if you've ever written a book, you'd know there's a lot of work involved that isn't reflected in the number of electrons used to transfer it), check your local library or borrow a copy. Heck, you could probably print out that version from Carbon Press if you feel the need for dead trees.
It's not a lot and I'd be willing to pay it, but it is expensive as ebooks go...and I don't like the dead trees.

I'd contact Trish, or Wade directly, as I'm sure they can help out: http://www.smokeyyunick.com/pages/contactus.html

Fart. Not one of my proudest internet moments. I comment on how a dead legend came across in his views toward women and his daughter comments on my thread.
That'll learn ya.
I can only hope the praise out weighed any criticism. The book, imo, is racing history and ingenuity gold. I loved the chapter on his cheater Chevelle. The details in that car to exploit grey areas in the rules is a college education by itself.

You gave it high praise.
Half-way though volume 2. Whoever posted that the editing quality diminishes was right; actually some content repeated from the first book.
Still trying to put a chronology of the South American stuff clear in my head. Did he just go part time or was it a full time venture besides the Garage?
Sure makes me feel like a slacker.
I laugh at his never ending criticism of Bill Clinton and his skirt chasing! Talk about bricks and glass houses!
Edit:
Read the thread from his daughter and her advice is spot on. Couple of the funniest sections"
"...Don't just order it, read it! If you need a place to start, Albert the Alleygator or Ocelot are good ones."
I spoke with Wade Caldwell (Carbon Press) today and he let me know that he and Trish will be in town during the Rolex 24, and books can be picked up at their home in Ormond Beach. Use the contact info on their website, and they can arrange a time.
