As I understand it there is no overplap of Gen1 to Gen2 but a Gen1 battery should be of interest to a Gen1 owner. However, the Gen1 was sold in very small quantities relative to the huge quantities of the other Gens.
If you dont want to get into making one good one out of two bad ones then I would just list them on FB for whatever seem reasonable. There is a hardship in Gen1 ownership of there are so few places to get parts. Research ebay and see what cells or whole cores go for.
What is involved in refurbishing them?
Could it not be a small house battery for a solar system?

That was my first thought as well, some sort of backup battery.
Wikipedia says 1.78 kWh. When new, obviously.
