I quit really following the /Drive channel on youtube when they went to mostly paid programming, but I checked in the other day, and they have a new series on their free channel. I was pretty impressed. It's high on technical details from really knowledgeable car guys, without some goofy host putting on for the camera. The first is all about heat management, and the second is about the LSx architecture. Seems like the kind of thing that could catch on around here, so I thought I'd get you guys up to speed if you weren't already aware.
I too stopped caring after the paid model was introduced. I was just about done when Leo Parente stopped making videos, or at least I couldn't find anything else.. good to see they still do interesting technical discussions though.
I watched the LS engineering one last night. Honestly, some of it was over my head but it was still a cool video and interesting to hear that perspective on the LS engines.
I liked the "heat" video.
but yeah, their "pay for it" scheme annoys me. Also my DVR flat out refuses to record the show on NBC apparently...
I miss my //big muscle...

The general trend for youtube channels like that, is to put it on your pay to view channel first, and then after a certain period of time, put it on your free channel for viewing. /Drive seems to be doing it now (Apparently there are other /Engineered vids on Drive+), and Roadkill is too. It seems like an ok compromise to me since I'm willing to wait to avoid paying.
Also, /Big Muscle is great.

I'll suggest that you learn what was over your head. Lots of jobs available with that kind of knowledge.
^ that's half of why I enjoy it! I have a few books I've been slowly getting through that explain everything I'm clueless on, but it's not easy to make time for casual reading around tests and homework
Yeah I am still subscribed to them for some reason. I noticed those videos dropped in my inbox. Very well put together little segments. Super interesting stuff to me. Loved both videos.
Just watched the heat video. Most of it I am already familiar with (because engineer), but I thought the cylinder with increased surface area was a neat touch. Never seen that before, but it makes a lot of sense.
Wanted to see a little more detail in the discussion (numbers!), but I understand that they don't want to alienate non-engineer types and there is also some proprietary info they don't want to discuss.
