With all the AADHD (automotive attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) on these boards...I was wondering how many of you have indeed accomplished this feat...

I for one am on year 8 of my Ranger and don't see it going anywhere...ever, since it does what I need a truck for and has very low maintenance cost...
15 years with a Miata. It's getting there, but I suspect that few of the classic people like the idea of a modern EFI car ever being considered classic. Moreso one that's OBDII.
On a relative basis, when I bought that car, were cars from 1984 considered classic?
Bought my '71 240Z new. Sold it a few years ago. Forty years, yes that probably qualifies.
Sorry, I just talked with my friend, she says forty years with a Z Car isn't much. She still has her '72 240Z she bought new & a PL-510 as well. So I'm not sure my entry even qualifies in that league.
The longest term of ownership for me is around two years. So no, not really. I love the idea of keeping a car for a long time, and I do all the maintenance and repairs as if I'm keeping it forever but I never do. Just haven't found the one yet I guess.
I'm nine months from owning the same EF Civic hatch for 25yrs.
Our last NEW car purchase was my wife's 2004 TSX in October of 2004. It's got 57,000 miles on it, all but the first few from us. I don't see it leaving the fleet for at least another 4-5 years, and then only from boredom, if at all.
The sainted Le Mans that was under discussion here a couple weeks ago was bought new by my father in December of 1966. Passed down to me in 1982. I just parted with it on the first weekend of 2015 - 48 years with 2 owners.
This year will mark 20 years with my 70 duster.
My 1967 MGB GT was ten years old when I acquired it. Pretty sure it qualifies as a classic by now.
What is kind of funny is that I thought of the GT as a classic when I bought it, even though it was only ten years old. And totally clapped out.
The 1990 Miata that I drove for 13 years? Never occurred to me to think of it as a classic. Still driving around town with it current owner.

Yep! In high school I was "that guy with the cool antique convertible" even though the car was just over 15 years old at the time. The Manic Miata is 18 years old right now and it just feels like a car (albeit a fun car).

Interesting thought- I got my first Alfa in 1987- and it being a '77, wasn't quite classic, but certainly old. Sold that car in '96, which would make it 19 when I sold it...
The gold car you see- got it in '96 when the car was 23. Very old and classic then. Now it's 41.
(the other much older cars, I stopped counting- since I never drove them, and sold them both as incomplete projects- but one was 33 when I got it, over 50 when I sold it)
I bought my '90 Miata in '93 and still have it.
I've only owned one brand new car in my life (a 1980 Mazda 626). I drove it for 22 years so it did reach collector car status, but it was pretty roached out by then.

It may not be "Classic" by many collector's definitions but Delaware says it's eligible for "classic" tags.
I never have, but my dad did. Bought a '61 Renault 4CV brand new, and finally sold it this past year.
Closest I've come is my '63 Comet, which I've had for 20 years, but it was 30 years old when I got it.

I have a 77 Volare... technically it was my fathers when he bought it some time in the 80s but i've owned it since 1991 when i inherited it, and well....
Do motorcycles count? I bought my 89 Honda NX125 brand new when I was 13 and it was my DD after getting my motorcycle license at 14. I sold it, then bought it back, and still have it. It needs to be restored, but still runs (last time I checked).

Well I didn't buy my rx7 new but I bought it on 2005 and now its historic plated :)
I was -1 years old when my car came out, we even share the same birth month :)
I bought my FX16 new. Still have it, but it hasn't run since 2001. Bought another FX16 for parts to fix it up. Turned out the parts car needed less work so that got the attention. Have been autocrossing that one for the last 5 years.
So kinda sorta.
Define classic? are you talking age or some other status. The 05 Ford GT we've been talking about appears to have become an instant classic. Possibly also the BMW 1W that came up the other day with several year old ones asking more than the new MSRP. Same thing happened with the Mazdaspeed 6 and FD Rx7, Mazda couldn't give either away when new, but within a couple of years people were asking bookoo bucks.
I not only bought my C30 new, I picked it up in Sweden, drove it on the Nurburgring when a few days old and have pics in a couple of magazines. That car will never be sold. My youngest will get it on permanent loan when she learns to drive but it comes back to me when she's done with it and I will not let it decline while she has it or I'll take it back. I will have that car once it's a classic.
Well, I bought a 6 year old Mustang convertible a while back. This July that will be 40 years ago. Just gave my nephew my Moms 69 Mustang that she bought as a 2 year old car. Yes, they both still run.

Bought my Focus new 14 years and 5 days ago. I plan on keeping it at least until it is eligible for historic tags(25 years). By then I will be 83 so I am hoping I will still be driving it.
