My CMC Locost project came with brand new in box Race Technology DL1 data logger and a Dash2 dash display, that looks like an AIM/Stack.  None of this has ever been used, and was apparently like $1700 in 2007 when it was bought.

Anyone ever used these things or know anything about them? Are they any good? Obviously they are outdated, but possibly still effective.

So here's what I sent to a local mailing list when someone was asking about a DL1 a few months ago:

I had a DL1 in my Miata and while it was great 15 years ago, I'd say that time has passed it by.  It's fundamentally an analog datalogger -- there's no native CAN support just a fairly slow RS232 port.  They did sell a CAN-to-rs232 converter but it was pretty limited in how many channels it supported.  It doesn't have auto-start/stop or overlay-onto-camera integration like AIM does.  Mine also needed some solder rework to replace the lithium coin battery that saves the GPS ephemeris data (without that it takes a very long time to sync to the satellites on power-up).

The software was slow and clunky (even more so than AIM), just as poorly documented, and it never had the same mindshare that AIM does in the US club racing community so you won't find a bunch of youtube videos on how to use it like you can for AIM.

If your time is free and you enjoy the hobby of electronics tinkering just as much as you do racing, then go for it.  If you really just want to log some data and analyze it to improve your driving the you're better off buying AIM stuff.
