I'm looking to get something a bit better in my 924, and 987 Boxster seats seem pretty good and aren't too expensive. I know the 986 Boxster seats fit, but want to check a few measurements for the 987/997 standard (non-sport) seats.

1. seat rail spread (distance between mount bolts)

2. height of the front edge of the seat bottom from the floor (assuming a straight line from the rails, since i know the 987 floor drops down. I've heard they sit higher than 924/944 seats but want to see how much higher.

Thanks!

Having owned a 924, a 996 and looked at some 987s I can tell you the 996 seat is surprisingly similar to much older Porsche seats while the next gen up is noticeably more modern. If you want the interior to 'mesh' stylistically i think the 996/986 would be a better fit. That's if you like them. The regular versions aren't particularly sporty.

Yeah, I don't love the 996/986 seats (or 924/944 seats that much), either in looks or in feel. I'm not terribly concerned with meshing stylistically (my 924S has a 9" touch-screen display in place of the center speaker!), and the 987/997 seats are much more comfortable in my opinion. Only real concern is on the manual 987 seats the big lever on the outside may be in the way of the 924/944 ebrake :/

I think I might be able to help you with this. I put a set of 2004 GT3 US spec Sport Seats seats into my '87 911 a few years ago. I'm pretty sure the GT3 seat bases are similar to the Boxster/Cayman seats and your 924 seats are probably very similar to old 911 seats.

I'm testing my memory here because I'm away from the car right now but the seat rail spacing was the same, I think it is 16 inches. The seat rails are about an inch or two longer, but that should only be an issue if you have someone sitting in the back seat. Even if you do, I don't think it's a deal breaker. You have to flatten a tab on the seat rails, but it's not too hard to do. I had to drill an extra hole at the back of each rail, but that was about it.

The new seats sit about 1.5 inches taller. Part of that is probably due to the worn foam in the old seats.

It was a fairly easy swap and it took less than a day. I would absolutely do it again.

If you don't get an answer before I see my dad's car again I'll try and get some measurements for you.

Yeah, I know the 986/996s fit fine with flattening out the tab and drilling a hole - just wanted to make sure nothing changed on the 987/997 seats before I spend money on some.

awesome, thanks. Also, if your car has the manual lever on the side, would totally appreciate it, if there's a way,  to measure how far out that comes out from the seat rail. As noted, need to make sure the ebrake handle will clear it!

Centers of the rails are 16" apart.  In my driving position, the front edge of the seat bottom is 5" from the bottom of the rails.  I have a power seat so there is no lever to measure.
