Saw someone use the big end cut off of rods as their shoulder harness clamps to keep the harness from sliding laterally on the harness bar of their cage and I like the idea, but the only rods laying around the shop are too big (SBC).
Anyone have some scrap rods I could buy for this totally unnecessary purpose? Or at least have knowledge of what motors might have what I seek so I could narrow my search? My cage tubing is 1.75".
Thanks!

Honda has 1.88"
Just need some oversize bearings, haha.
Suspect that's plenty close, thanks...will start inquiring with my import obsessed acquaintances.
NA/NB Miatas are something like 1.76" IIRC, but that's probably the crank journalo diameter, so with bearings in the rod. You need something with a crank journal of around 1.5"D.

So leave the bearings in the rod. Angle grinder the cap face until it's tight enough to fit. Done.
All we're looking for here is a cosmetically pleasing hose clamp and washer, we don't need to get fancy.

I know it isn't as cool as engine parts hanging off the roll bar but...
Split collars are cheap and lightweight
Aluminum versions are everywhere too.
I successfullt resisted a McMaster link.

Yeah, that! Haha.
This is very much a vanity protect. It needs to tighten up enough to not move laterally enough that a harness strap can't slide. That's it.
So, who's got 4 old Miata rods? I've got some beer money for you!

Yeah, but then I'll look at them every time and think "those could have been cooler."
Currently have big ole duct work zip ties and some foam roll bar padding (pipe insulation) doing the job.
A series Mini engines had 1-3/4" big ends from mid 70's on. Should be plenty of those around, of course that's the size of the rod journal so the rods would need their bearings to make up the difference.
The Toyota 1NZ-FE engine (Echo/Yaris/Scion xB/xA) has a big end diameter of 1.69". That's the rod size without the bearing. A bit of work with a die grinder or a flap disc could make it a nice tight fit. Fiat 1.4 has 1.77" big end. That the only two cars we have that come close to 1.75"
