I actually do need some help working on the SAAB, but in my typical fashion I do not have the tools that I need and haven't lined anything up yet... I cannot decide what I want to do with this thing...

My new apartment is in Newton, the town next to Waltham and I still do not work very much so I am always free. I can even host anyone who wants to hang out in the garage and talk about cars that will probably never really get built.

In reply to tb:

After having to rent bays to work on my cars or pay mechanics I'd be happy just standing in a garage that somebody actually owns!

I'm definitely up for a GRM NE get together. Tuesday 2/1 works best for me, thurs 2/3 would be possible, but i have class weds 2/2. I can be in that area probably around 630pm tuesday/thursday and i'd be up for whatever you guys feel like, be it working on a project or just processing beer.

Jeez--I work in Dedham a few days a week (Quincy 2 others) (live in RI). I'm a good helper monkey (as Sonic will attest) and if I can get a wife pass, I can lend a hand at some point.

Tuesday. Where? I will be driving up from York that day, probably on road around 9:30, staying Waltham.

I really appreciate the offer and I might take you up on it when the time comes. Frankly, I am pretty much done with this car and it might end its life as lemons fodder...

Of course, I am shopping around for my next one already...

Tuesday it is then. The only issue I have with hosting some people to hang out at my new place is that I probably will not be moved in yet. I can come up with important things like pizza and beer, but I would not count on anything fancy like furniture.

I can handle taxi service again if you like, just let me know.

Anyone can just pm me for address/ directions

PM sent; feel free to come on over.

The SAAB needs a new exhaust manifold gasket . With all the corrosion and broken studs, I know that manifold is not coming off without a serious fight and I am loosing the will to continue the war...

How hard is the access to the manifold? Is it front or rear?

Access is pretty good, front manifold with little in the way and decent amount of room. With a compressor, 90 degree air drill and some left handed bits I bet I could get it, but I have none ofthose yet... two studs are broken, the other half dozen bolts are probably pretty stuck... easy project for someone else...

Get some Aerokroil and soak the studs for a few hours, respray, repeat a couple of times. Then give them a try.

Got the PM, thanks!

I'll be able to park the car for good soon and will start soaking them in anticipation of getting to it eventually. My plan is to start with the "intact" stuff, see how much of that I break, and then reevaluate the situation

Happy Birthday

Thanks and good luck. Seriously though, Aerokroil works better than anything I've ever used - which is just about everything out there.

I think I can come up with something to drill that out. How would access be with a electric impact or dremel cutoff tool?

Do you want to get the new gasket, studs and nut in anticipation of winning this fight?

I thought about scrambling to get something ready, but the bad weather has thrown me way off schedule. It will be enough work to clear space for everyone to park!

I will understand and not be offended if anyone does not want to be out driving in yet another storm...

That is a shame, but probably a pretty good idea. I should still be around in Feb so I will look forward to catching up then.

Does everyone else still want to hang out? We can easily postpone the party until travel is a little safer...
