In the finest GRM tradition, I'm enabling a friend to buy a VR6-equipped VW to swap the drivetrain into the 1987 Gti he's owned for decades.
We found a candidate in Ogallala, NE, but after getting burned driving to Salt Lake City last weekend for a car that was 'not quite' as described, I'm wondering if anyone can easily put eyes on this for us? Happy to buy beers and pizza for your time!
For that matter, any GRMers have a VR6 donor car or drivetrain to sell? Ideally, closer to 80026 Colorado?
Thanks!
Did you look at the ad on Craigslist? There is a VR6 for $1500. Pulled from a Jetta

Thank you, MyMiatas! That looks great to me and i sent it to my friend.
And here I was thinking you already saw that ad.
I'm just riding along on this one. I think he's not quite certain what he wants to do. I'm hoping to see that VR6 tonight and there are a few parts cars around. The usual challenges of moving and storing a parts car, too. Not sure how many non-motor parts he will want or need, but a good parts car is helpful. Again, thanks for calling that to my attention (he might have seen it, but it's ten minutes from my house and the seller could be a great resource).
He many still have the car sitting there.
Did he purchase the engine? Was there more to the ad?
The guy selling the engine you told me about in your post was super cool. Certainly has the GRM spirit, along with a half-dozen cars, extra motors, transmissions, tons of wheels, and more. We're going tomorrow to shoot the breeze with donuts and coffee and I'm expecting it will be time very well spent.
Let me know if he has any Datsun Roadsters or any interesting Miata items.
Did you pick up that engine?
Sorry, just saw your posts. Did you get my PM from a while ago?
The seller is super cool and my friend bought the engine. He's all VW, though , so no Miata or Datsun stuff.
Thanks again for the tip!
Do PM messages have the term robot in the title? I may have but may have delete it.
That good. Is his car a winter project or something quickly done.
I stopped in Ogallala on our Rampage trip and had the worst food I've ever eaten in a restaurant there.
Doesn't help you at all but it'll at least bump your post up
