Chris,
Wish I could help on this one too as I'm a fan of the Cressies. My '83 is sitting patiently waiting for me to swap the new motor in...
I wish you could as well hobiercr,as you did such an excellent job on the GLC. I have never driven a Cressy, but they seem like a cool car if not really heavy. I am sure it is nothing like my Rotary cars, but I am up for a little change, and the buy-in is a lot lower than the old school Mazda's.
Keep your eyes open for one with a manual. They made them through 85 but are fairly rare. The cancer is in the normal spots on the northern cars but the motors are fairly bullet proof and pull like a train with the DOHC I-6. There seem to be many more upgrades for the MX83's than the MX63's so it shouldn't be too hard to make it a bit more fun.
Mine came stock with a LSD but not sure if they all did. I put larger sway bars on mine along with KYB Blues which REALLY tightened up the handling. IMO a very fun platform to play with.
Good luck with the car.
I would love a manual one,but they seem really rare,so I am not too opposed to an autotragic. Thsi will be a cool cruiser with the kids, and such when the weather is okay for it. When the snow it flying I will be in the Ram Wagon,or my wife's Sienna. There is an 83 I think on JNC that is manual, but it is on the Left Coast.
Nowhere close to VA, but for anybody who's looking, this is a link to a CL ad for a Cressida from Florida, now in Barrie ON (north of Toronto) with a blown headgasket. 115 k miles (US car, remember) and $1000 Cdn. (No affiliation or anything, I just looked on the Toronto CL out of curiosity, and there was a grand total of 1 Cressida.)
