Ok so I had to swap out the MC in the Wartburg. Needed a larger one, luckily the supplier of the original was happy to swap for a diff size.

But the outlet port moved. The ports on these MCs are 1/8 NPT thread and I have it going to a distribution block/brake light switch which has a 1/8 NPT input from the MC so I was just using a straight coupler.

The new MC has moved the port, instead of coming out straight it comes out 45 deg so I need to switch from a straight coupler to a 45 deg coupler. Ideally it would be 45 deg 1/8 NPT male to male but I cant seem to find that. I have found male to female and I can then thread my straight coupler into that to make it work but ideally I'd just have the one piece, less parts, less fail points.

That being said I've always gotten the 1/8 NPT fittings in kits with the MCs or other brake parts so when I hunt for them I find all kinds of fittings and dont know what is safe/reliable for brakes and what isnt. The local hw store had a 1/8 NPT 45 deg fitting in brass like the ones I used to begin with but the guy (and myself) was concerned that because it was a plumbing fitting it may not hold the pressure of a brake system.

Can anyone educate me on these? Or just point me to a 1/8 NPT Male to Male 45 degree fitting since my google fu seems to be striking out so far.

I would go with the 45 deg female to male and thread your coupler into that. That way you KNOW everything is rated for brake system pressures. A little Teflon pipe tape will handle leakage. Get the pink Teflon stuff (used with natural gas fittings), it's thicker and easier to use.

Yeah, I just ordered one from aircraft spruce. I use the "liquid" thread sealer on these usually, it came with one of the brake kits I got awhile ago and it just seems to work well.

Typical of this car, nothing easy, was just supposed to be a couple of bolts and swap out the MC...no dice....

Shed more blood this weekend...The car demands sacrifices.

i can honestly say that I don't recall ever seeing a tapered thread anywhere in a brake system.

Wilwood and Baer both use NPT as inputs on their calipers.

I don't like it, but its pretty common.
