I was so excited to go ice racing this winter...was. I put my studded snows from my 99 nb onto my 01 LS nb. They do not clear the brakes. I didn't know this. I have an extra set of LS rims, but cannot find snows or studded snows that will fit them.
Is there somewhere I can find fitment from other cars? I don't know jack about rim sizes, etc.
If I can't find anything, this car will either sit or end up in a ditch.
I came in for a different kind of LS Miata.
Didn't we just go through this a month or so ago?
The problem is not the LS trim level. The problem is the "Sport" brakes that were fitted to a number of Miatas starting in 2001. They're larger in diameter than the earlier brakes, so you need a wheel that fits over top. There are many options.
Once you have a wheel, it's a matter of a tire. There are 15" sizes to fit 15" wheels. A quick look shows that there's a Blizzak in the standard 17" size. I haven't looked too hard for 16", but there's a 195/45-16 Pirelli.

Hi Keith, yes we did. I went through tire rack and the didn't have what I needed. I went to a popular tire place here and they didn't have what I needed. I was looking for someone to say, they had used a different make rim. Our fiesta st has some aftermarket rims that came off our focus svt that we use for snows. I don't even know the brand, it was a happy accident.
I was wondering if someone knew another make that would work. I have found some decent deals locally on cl, but short of showing up and trying them on the car, I am at a loss.
Well, there's a 195/45-16 Pirelli on Tire Rack that will fit your extra set of stock LS wheels. There's your easy button.
Most 15" alloys will fit, some will require you to change the banjo bolt on the caliper. Any Miata shop that sells wheels will be able to tell you which of the wheels they sell will fit. Or Tire Rack - indentify your car as "STR class" and it'll show 15" options.
If you want to know if some random wheel found on CL will fit, that's too deep a pool. 15" alloy? Probably. See above about banjo bolt.

Keith, thanks so much for finding these, I looked and didn't see them. I must have typed in the wrong info. I also didn't realize that I needed studded snow tires. This info will help me with my local tire place. Thanks much!
Ok wheels figured out, what is the best size 15" snow tire to run on OE rims in snow country?
Depends partially on how much time you'll spend on legit snow and ice vs cold pavement. But I'd be looking at 185/55-15 or 195/50-15. Availability is better in the former.
If you haven't discovered already - the snow tire supply is getting depleted by this time of year. Vendors only bring in what they expect to sell that year, and of course most of them sell in late fall or early winter. By February, the shelves are getting bare.
Is 185/60-15 too tall?
I'm running 175/65-14 now and they seem a little too small on dry cold pavement. I do have snow/ice covered town roads to deal with.
It's a little taller than stock but should be okay. There is potential for slight rubbing at full compression or full lock. I would take the smaller 185/55 as a first choice and go to the larger only if I was after a specific tire.
The Nokia's R3, it is available in either 55 or 60
X-Ice3 have a 195/55/15 size that I use on my integra and my Miata. I just bought a new set a couple weeks ago through Discount Tires so they are out there.
