So, my girlfriend and I signed up to run some track days with Northern California Racing Club (NCRC). Anyone here have experience with them? What do you think of their Novice session driving school and exercises?

I ask primarily because my girlfriend is unsure whether she wants to run in their "Novice" or "Limited Passing" group. She has done one track day. Normally the "Novice" group is for people doing their first day on track, and they would put her in "Limited Passing". But she had a bad experience with her instructor for her first track day and kind of wants to start over from scratch.

Any thoughts?

I'm sure if she asks to run in the "novice" group, they will oblige.

We asked, and they have obliged. They're giving her the option to run in "Novice" or "Limited Passing".

I got more details and my girlfriend said the "Novice" format sounds like what she'd like: a very basic focus on line, dissecting segments of the track, and how to pass in various areas.

I think that last part is big for her. She got really frazzled about passing at her first event. The fact that she was timid and wanted to drive a bit slower, and that the Miata was majorly outgunned by the vast majority of vehicles there was only part of it. The bigger part was her instructor who missed the drivers' meeting and was telling her to point people by in violation of the passing rules for her session, and even giving point-by's for her.
