Hi. I just bought a 986 Boxster S track car: stock power, cage, PSS9s, sway bars. I plan to install a differential. Does anyone reading this have experience running a Boxster with a helical (e.g. Quaife or Wavetrac) on track?

FWIW: I like helicals. I have two BMW E36s — one endurance race car, the other an M3 track car. I have the BMW helicals from Z3s in those, and I've been very happy with them. On occasion, I'll get minor wheel spin when bouncing around at Sebring or jumping the turn 3 curb at Road Atlanta, but that's it. Otherwise, they just go. There's no maintenance. I don't think about them.

The mid-engine Boxster is a different animal. I'm curious if a helical works well with it.

Personally I don't see why it wouldn't.  You'd get to keep your turn-in and the higher rear weight bias should help keep you from running into issues where you really NEED a diff, so in theory it should only help, not hurt.

 

I just looked up the build for 034's crazy time-attack GTI - it had a mid engined Audi V6 making 600-800 wheel horsepower, through a Boxster trans - and they used "a clutch pack limited slip".  They also had three-four times as much horsepower, though...
