"If only the UAW would allow it" is an amazing statement. I'm tempted to go to the Det auto show with a shirt that says "save the big (crossed out) Detroit 3, dump the UAW' but I'm afraid I'll get attacked.

I see the threads talking about how the fat cats at the top can't manage and they talk about all the misteaks they make, but what most people don't realize is that the Union doesn't allow them to manage. It's as if the top guys are hired, and then tied to their chairs or given blinders.

The union has to approve almost every aspect of the car company from car & plant design to working conditions, etc., etc. How can you expect management to get a job done if they are cut off at the knees. I'm guessing they don't even have free reign on what food to serve in the cafeteria.

OK so maybe I dont get it. What is wrong with that plant. Why would UAW not want more plants like this. I'm sure they left some things out. But what?

because the advancement in automation probably eliminates some UAW jobs?

Keep in mind that the unions don't care about the companies, they are only interested in what will maximize the pay and benefits of the members. That one sided approach is why they are in the mess they are in.

What you and I want doesn't matter, what makes sense doesn't matter, only what gets max work with minimum work matters.

CAW (canadian auto workers) just went on record with a message to the auto companies. "Sucks to be you" was the message and "don't blame us" was the advice.

The good news is that learning spanish is not so hard if you can speak french.

The reason the unions do not want the suppliers in the same physical plant is that they have to maintain the illusion that non-union workers are abused and underpaid.

DC is talking about a detroit bailout? Not with my tax bucks. Let the UAW take some of their millions and billions theyve skimmed off the top and bail out the companies theyve wrecked!!! They were needed in the 30s and 40s when employees were being masacred in order to keep the production up. Nowadays, theyre sucking the life out of Detroit. Id love to hear from someone up top in the UAW and hear what they have to say about that idea...

Ford, unlike the other two, does not want a cash handout. They only would like to have a line of credit available next year of the economy gets worse and stays bad. They have plenty of cash right now. This is not true of the other two.
