Powerbox

Have any of you ever tried this thing out? The performance claims are ridiculous, but is there any benefit whatsoever?

Nope. Tricks your IAT and causes your car to dump more fuel.

If you open that box, it'll just be a resistor soldered inline with those wires.

Pure trash, it's an "Ebay chip."

"Hand made in the USA!!!!" Ya,sure.

Thought as much. Thanks, guys.

Let's analyze some of his claims.

"...utilizes the latest in performance technologiy"

First of all, learn to spell. Second of all, what is the latest in performance technology? Cold fusion? Unicorn farts?

"PowerBOX Chips send a unique modified signal through an engine data sensor."

Unique signal? What's that? And which engine data sensor?

"This signal causes your factory Engine Control Module to reprogram itself for a more efficient air/fuel ratio and timing curve."

Really? If that was the case, why wasn't this already done from the factory? Don't you think Nissan would have loved to have 75 more horsepower AND 8 more miles per gallon from their econobox? Oh, no. That makes no sense. Clearly they left all that power and economy on the table for POWERBOX to unlock.

"Our modules never bypass, deactive, or exceed factory limitations. That being said, this is perhaps one of the safest upgrades you can do to your vehicle!"

Really? I'd say 75 more horsepower exceeds factory limitations...

A resistor in the IAT sensor line is popular on the ZX2 site.

Have there been any dynos proving this mod over there? I hate to say this, but stuff like that is part of the reason i stopped going to Escort forums. I've never seen a bigger collection of horrible stupid mods done in one place anywhere else on the internet. It made my brain hurt.

Honestly, it depends on what car you drive and what you want out of it. Personally I installed the powerbox onto my 2006 GOMANGO! Daytona Charger R/T #3622 out of 4000 and I love it. I don't have dyno results, but I took it down a empty straight out by me and before I finished the straight just under 18 seconds. I ran 3 times and got around the same time each time. after the instillation I got times closer to 16 seconds. I will admit my gas mileage is about the same if not a little worse, but I wanted a little more power without breaking my wallet and this product did that for me. its super easy to take the part on and off as well and there is a money back guarantee so why worry? try it and see if it works on your car that's the only way to know for sure! The car already had a Flowmaster exhaust system and an Airaid cold air intake, as well as a predator tune. for any pictures of the car or the motor to see how the chip looks installed email me at Team.Cre8@hotmail.com. thanks for reading my input!

I've been in parts too long. I saw "ACD" and immediately thought AC Delco.

Wow, $64 for a 6.4 C resistor. Them there is some profit!

On the old, dumb, 1980's Toyota EFI systems, you could add a potentiometer to the coolant temp sender and the AFM to allow you to tweak the fuel a little bit.

It worked fine if you swapped cams and such but was really a band-aid fix.

You know what hurts my brain?

Some of the stuff HAS been tested. The PVC pipe in place of the resonator, for instance, was A-B-A tested to make no difference (aside from intake noise) except for a narrow band in the midrange where it actually LOST power.

Then I get an issue of GRM and the article on the ZX2 suggests this as a "mod"! NO.

I wonder if the future Vintage Views will suggest glue-on Brembo-look caliper covers to combat brake pad overheating problems on 370Zs.
