Want to replace some of the verneer on the RR. Advice? Thinking of using the vacuum bag technique.

What's verneering?

Do you mean veneering? (I am a little familiar with veneer work)

My bad, veneer. I'm exhausted. The difficulty is in the curves. I may have to create some form of steamer but would rather not.

Send it out for hydrograffic coating. Cheaper then actual wood and will last as well with a good UV coating.

Honestly finding the parts used is the cheapest answer for the RR.

Hard to find good wood parts and not cheap. Easy to spend a grand. Vacuum bad kit is under 200 and veneer and adhesives under 100. Plus they will last as long as I plan to keep it.

Another vote for hydro dipping.

They did some similar repairs on one episode of wheeler dealers. I think it was on the XJ6 center console. They used a vacuum bag. It's TV, but the repair didn't look too terrible. I'd buy the supplies and try it out. Sounds like a fun project.

Id be tempted to make them out of solid wood and skip the veneer. Either do it myself or go to the local Woodcraft store and hang up your own flier. Or just do a flier and keep the veneer.

I've used rolls of veneer to cover edges of plywood on a few occasions. It comes with an adhesive backing and you put it on with a heat gun or iron then stain it. Do they make that sort of thing in sheets?

Sorry for the late reply but yes they do. In just about any wood you can think of. But vacuum is the preferred way to get it done.

Another option is to prep the surface and paint them in body color or interior shiny black. But if you have a lot of wood to do it can get expensive as well to send out for paint.

Stick-on veneer on a RR? Really? Why not Mactac?

If it is a small piece of dash or something, you can remove it and have a local shop do it for you and it probably wouldn't be too expensive. I restored a MK 9 Jaguar with what seemed like acres of wood that needed refinishing.

At least the panels on my Jensens were flat so no vacuum bags to worry about.

That's Vermeer. I have a minor in art history.
