Down the street there is this semi-wasted chinesium scooter sitting out front for free. BMS motors, the VIN tag says "baron motorcycles" and it's one of the JMstar group.
It looks like the typical universal GY6 150cc with a CVT. I gave it a kick and it seems to have compression, although further testing couldn't be done because it appears the kick starter only goes down. It refuses to come back up. I knocked, but no answer.
Anyone want a 150cc for a project? Do I want it for a project?
These are the only two shots I got before my phone died.
How can there be anything bad about free mechanical stuff? Worse case you put it at the curb at your house?
I wish you were closer. It looks like it would be fun to mess around with. I would probably stick the motor on my kids go kart.
Did some research. Looks like 7.8 hp stock, but they have been modded to 13+ before exploding. I did find one guy who put a turbo on his. Evidently there is a huge following for these.

I've long though it would be fun to try building a V-twin from a pair of those... You'd only need to find one more.

They want a bill for a whippet ?
I'm thinking it might be a good (but noisy) way to power something. I doubt there are throttle regulators for it so it wouldn't be good as a generator or pressure washer. No real desire for a scooter or a go kart. No real time to tinker with it.
So I should go get it. Zero practical use for me, but it's a free thing.

To having a shop full of so much crap you can't find anything.
I approve.
Edit: I must admit I'm glad it's at your house and not mine.
Parts are cheap and easy to come by. Wouldn't be surprised if it's just a dead CDI. Starters on them don't seem to fail so much as owners are too cheap to buy a new battery when they die, so they use the kickstart until it (or something else) breaks.
Dude, it's free, it has a motor...get it! I'll be happy to come take it off your hands if you decide you no longer want it.
Buddy of mine has had a few cheap Chinese scooters over the past few years. They're a blast to putt around the neighborhood on, cheap as heck to tinker with, and seem to be pretty unkillable.

They include the required tee connection.
I ended up passing on it. I went the next morning and I was looking it over again and the owner came out. He suspected it had a bent rod and it was rattling badly, and also mentioned that it probably needed a head because it keeps blowing head gaskets. Just about the time I was saying "thank you, I'll let someone else have fun with it," a truck pulled up and three guys hoisted it up in the bed and drove off with it.
But it was an interesting research exercise. Now I'm going to keep looking for one just for kicks.
H’mmm take your family property in the Virginias mix in a Franken Bike powered by that engine and much hilarity ensues.
