only if you're driving around on the rims rather than the tires.....

I don't know if it's because it was so slow and I had to beat the crap out of the truck to make it go anywhere, but you know what? The Vette has this totally 90's semi-digital dash, with the instant gas mileage readout. I've sort of made a game out of seeing how high I can keep the mileage. It's surprisingly amusing, and it does keep me in-check. I don't feel like rushing...it's wierd. And you wouldn't believe the kind of mileage you can get out of the thing!! Though it's also kinda funny just HOW quickly it'll guzzle when you drive it a little hard. Glad you got out of it the way you did. I know cops are needed, but I've never been happy to see one show up (no I don't steal TVs for a living...haha).
+1 on this.. Not like my SAAB was a slow poke, but I used to drive faster than needed. I got at least 1 ticket every 6 months in that thing. Twice in one week. But now that I have my GTO with the instant MPG readout, It's just like you said, you make a game out of getting the highest mileage you can. Cruise is set to 70 on the interstates, and I try to see how long I can go without getting off the cruise. 27.5 mpg is the most that i have gotten from it so far.
I didn't read every post in this thread so this may have already been mentioned and/or they may be illegal in Virginia (probably are by the sound of things there) but use some protection in the future. No I am not talking about a condom. Get a good radar/laser detector son!! They are worth their weight in gold. And no I am not suggesting you use them for speeding, just for protection. I have picked up many a pesky smokie ( I can't beleive I said smokie!!) with mine. I am much slower these days but mine is on all the time.
Good luck with your situation. Most of us have been in a similar one, at one time or another.
Off topic, but related: My mom was involved as the rear-ender in a 2 car boo-boo, downhill on a city street during rush hour. She got a lawyer, since the 2nd car in a 2 car boo-boo is ALWAYS at fault. The lawyer told her to dress well for court, as if she were going to church, because he figured the other guy would show up in dirty jeans and ragged tee-shirt (he did, BTW!). This did not make a favorable impression on the judge, and Mom got a minor fine ($25, IIRC), and told to make sure she kept the windshield clean. The other driver got contempt of court and $100, mostly for being a slob and allowing it to carry into court. He even smelled bad, and that's what prolly ticked off the judge. AND he was told to keep his taillights clean, because the lawyer convinced the judge that THAT figured into the boo-boo.
And Mom got no points added to her record. Best $100 she ever spent, hiring that lawyer...

they are illegal in Va.
and besides, Va. uses mostly laser and they'll have you before you before your detector goes off anyhow.
There was a story on NPR about many speed limits being too low (unnaturally low). There was a way to fight a ticket based on the natural flow and speed of traffic as well as some law of Uniform Traffic Code. You may want to check into this aspect of your issue. 25mph is very low.
Daniel Kennedy, a criminal justice professor at the University of Detroit-Mercy, said it's possible for "someone in a responsible position" to compel communities to adhere to the public act. "They would have to come up with a writ of mandamus, which means 'we command,' " he said. "That would force communities to obey state law." Driver Jim Walker of Lexington beat a traffic ticket in 2008 by proving in court that the posted 30 mph speed limit on Nixon Road in Ann Arbor had not been set in accordance with PA 85. He argued that because the city had not adopted the 2006 Uniform Traffic Code, by law the city must set limits using the access point method. Since the city hadn't done that, the ticket was thrown out. "The judge said he wasn't happy about it, but he had to throw the ticket out because we proved the speed limit wasn't legal," said Walker, 65, who helped another man beat a speeding ticket using the same argument. "The city appealed, but the judge dismissed the appeal." Steve Purdy, director of the National Motorists Association Michigan chapter, said prosecutors usually will dismiss tickets challenged under PA 85. "They don't want to establish a precedent, so they'll throw the ticket out or offer a deal where they give you an impeding traffic ticket rather than a speeding ticket," he said. Impeding traffic tickets usually carry higher fines than speeding tickets, Purdy said, but the tradeoff is no demerit points are attached to the driving record, meaning insurance rates do not increase.
