So after a year of searching and pining for an NC Miata I have mine.

2 weeks later one of my tire techs show up with a very clean NA M-Edition. Weird coincidence, but ok.

Now our shop seems to see one in our bays every couple of days.

I can't recall seeing this many in the area ever. Are they infectious, or more like migratory birds just flocking together?

You're just paying more attention now that you have one.

I've noticed whatever I'm driving on a daily basis I see all the time. My DD used to be a new Frontier truck and I saw them all the time, now I don't ever see them, but see Mustangs all the time. Same for when I had a Mazdaspeed 3, 350Z, etc.

I thought that might be the case, but I started shopping/obsessing last year. I would have thought I would have noticed.

Strange thing is when I was driving my Scirocco something similar happened. Suddenly 2 more were buzzing down our highway on a daily basis. Strange with a 25 year old eccentric hot hatch.

The local Miata explosion seems really strange though.

Since I bought my miata five years ago, my brother and dad and three other friends now have them. I think they are like chicken pox.

Yes, they are infectious, but its probably more the fact that you are noticing them more. After we bought ours, we kind of started looking for them. Now, my son and I have an annual "Miata spotting" contest while we're out driving around. Of course, the truth of it is I think we still do it because it drives my wife crazy. Its officially the "Miata quick draw contest", which means the car must be theoretically viewable to both of us before it can be called. Since my wife becomes the de facto arbiter of disputes (and nearly every claim is disputed ), she hates the game.

Now that you're actually looking for them, they're everywhere.

It is like the plague just wait till they start following you home and you end up with 4 or 5 of them.

I am pretty sure. After I had bought my Miata, three maybe four other people in my car club acquired Miatas, within six months

And? You bought a French surrender mobile. Few 'Murican's would be caught driving that.

I would have thought few Americans would drive something that has a "gay" stigma attached. Ben's na miata sitting in my barn made the structure less manly, so I suppose they are.

Crazy thing, back when I had everything running I'd always see the car I hadn't driven that day. Always saw Corrados when I was in the Golf, always saw GTIs when I was in the Corrado.

No not by themselves, but the passonate, unprotected homosexual sex that follows can be. Make sure you get a rollbar and black wheels to avoid falling in with the "other" miata drivers. (not that there is anything wrong with that)
