The risk of older Honda products getting stolen seems to be directly proportional to one's vicinity to a major urban area. I would be anxious to let an Integra out of my eyesight in Chicago. In Peoria, probably not an issue...

I think my '92 might actually be too bad to be stolen. Which is good, because you can unlock the doors by reaching in through the holes in the rear wheel well.

You guys make it sound like I'd be better off with a Miata...

Might have to look at this thing anyway.

I was going to suggest a corolla fx, but it looks like there are only 2 on craigslist in California. On with a blown motor and one in Monterey with an auto an zero photos or info.

fx16 with an auto? That's sacrilege.

If you are in san jose or fremont or oakland I would be careful parking on the street. I dont know about crx but people still steal civics around here. I am on the peninsula so dont really worry about theft. All it takes is a cholo with a shaved key. Good luck on the move.

I'm not moving down there , just working there for a few days a week for a while. Big difference, or so I keep telling the wife.

If the pied-a-terre works out then I'm not worried about parking the car there overnight or at client sites. I think the main issues are parking it at the airport.

Celica GTS? Lightweight, Unloved, cheap, and no honda theft issues.

Just buy the car you want and if it goes missing have good insurance. If you ever make it to the peninsula near san mateo and want a beer let me know. Take it easy.

Install Grant steering wheel with Grant quick release. Remove steering wheel. Use the grant stuff cuz it's not cool enough to steal.

Also, get a Ford Fairmont.

I've never really considered those, guess I should have a look at them.

The CRX was a bust - the swap is much better executed than most I've seen, but I had forgotten how small they are inside. No way I'd fit in there with a helmet on my bonce.

If you wanted a car to blend in well in that area, a w210 mercedes e320 or e46 BMW 323 or 325 would not even get a second look.

There is a GRM member local to me with an FX16 (manual trans) with a very strong, recently totally-rebuilt 4A-GE engine he can't seem to give away. The car is in Oregon, so BoxheadTim could pick up this sleeper and get a nice little drive down the coast on the way to the Bay Area:

Disregard the strange wording of the ad; although it appears as if he is selling just an engine, the ad is for the entire car.

Around '95 my CRX almost left me. Parked outside the front door at work someone tried with a slide hammer to remove my ignition switch. They broke the screw off in the switch and then decided to destroy the console so they could steal the CD player. The idiot left a new slide hammer with greasy fingerprints in the bushes in front of the car, so I took that to the local PD. They said if they ever matched the prints I could take the person to small claims court. Pfffttt.. 2012 in Central Florida I found door gasket material torn by another tool trying to steal her again, this happened twice and gas was syphoned once. I always freak out when someone parks next to me and 'hides' my car in a parking lot. I always walk faster then laugh at myself when I see her still there.

I was checking out an Integra the other day thinking how much I wanted one and noticed the Club on the steering wheel. Guess they are still fair game around here.

Also, when I was getting a new battery from O'Reilly's the counter guy said his CRX had been stolen three times since he had it. All the S2000's here have rebuilt titles from being stolen.

Love Stealattle.

My Integra came from Seattle and has never been stolen! If you want one, you can buy mine and bring it back "home". But keep it in a locked garage, like I do!

Hmm, that thing would be kind of tempting. The detour via Oregon might be a little much with my current schedule, but at least it's on the correct side of the mountains (it's dumping snow up in the mountains again) in the right price range. Plus it's a cool car, wonder what the suspension and brake aftermarket is like?

That's tempting. If only I had gotten the house with the 3 car garage. Right now it would be tough to get away with buying another car. And I'd worry too that if the car came home that somebody would walk off with it.

AFAIK, there are some options, although maybe not as extensive as for Hondas. There are a few companies making front coilover kits, there are a few choices for shocks, pretty sure urethane bushings are available, I haven't checked about the TRD hard rubber bushings lately. Techno Toy Tuning offers camber plates, and since the transmission architecture is shared with all FWD and mid-engined Toyotas running all of the A-series engines plus all the ZZ-series engines, LSD options are pretty good.

As far as brakes, I know there are performance pad and rotor options, and Manon Racing in NZ makes aftermarket big brake kits...others get creative with the Toyota parts bin and swap later Corolla hubs onto the AE82.

I think both Whiteline in Australia (they should be available Stateside, maybe even at Summit Racing, just unsure of the current distributors) make swaybars and bushings. Ultra Racing in Malaysia also make sway bars and body braces. TRD used to offer a lot of this stuff also, and some of it may still be available.
