I sometimes feel kinda weird about the kind of people who see a car and instantly think about the driver's penis.

Getting jaded's a bitch. Soon it takes a Sonny's 1000ci engine with a quartet of huge turbos on the side just to get up to normal.

They sell one now that does 1275 on pump gas for the street - no turbos required. That might be enough.
I mean, for Lemons or something.

Since by the Dyno with mine makes 620+ at the crank I can say things like that. :) And I am way down on power compared to a lot of guys locally.
400hp is not really that much anymore to me, your talking to guy who used to DD a car with a 2.7 lb's/hp ratio in the summer. Of course not every Viper is stock and they make absurd power with boost and they have the room in the rear to run tires large enough to make them stick.
Can you tell I like power.

Just a joke folks....nothing to see here. I personally classify these (perhaps wrongfully) with Hummers, jacked up duallys rollin coal, '83 Caprices rolling on 28"s, . They make a statement about the person driving them, if only that they like to be seen.
Stereotypes are obviously random and have nothing to do with reality.
I also don't give a crap about what people think about my cars. I just pick less expressive cars to not give a crap about being seen in.

Had a customer who wasn't happy with 1800whp, wanted more.

A friend's Viper broke loose in his enclosed trailer once, damaging the hood and a couple of panels. It was almost totaled because of it. Panels are EXPENSIVE for that car.
That is why the Gen III went to a traditional hood over a clam-shell design. Maintenance is a bit harder though, but the motor comes out really easy.
To me a properly setup viper feels very close to a S2000, I know it sounds weird but it does. Mind you its a S2000 with 4 x the torque and 3 x the HP but it has a very similar feel.
I was going to say a Miata. Similar turn in and steering feel, but coupled with a truck-like shifter. My experience is in a 2nd gen car. I wasn't all that impressed with the power considering it was supposed to have 500hp, but a lot of that I think was that it had a good suspension and worked well. In general though, I liked it. Tons of cockpit heat though, like a 60's big block muscle car.
The Gen II's are only 400ish HP at the rear wheel in stock form with some mods. Unless its got FI or major head/Cam work a gen II is not making 500 hp.
The power is very linear, easy to recover traction when you are to hot on the throttle. Consumables are pretty cheap as well except for tires, my track pads run I think 250$ for a whole set when they get offered at discount. I paid ~49$ for all four wheels for a non OEM pair. Rotors are cheapish, 200, and they last forever, plus there is always some schmuck selling their stock parts so they can put on the newest set of BBK that they have no need for.
Vipers are really tiny when you see them in person and they are parked next to something you are used to the scale of, the extremely low weight also throws some people for a loop. Merc makes 600+hp cars all day long but all of them weight 1/4-1/3 more then a viper on the best days.
It was a Gen III, I was off on my gens and forgot about the first two being so similar.

Gen III is my favorite and pretty much the only generation that I will own. Not as good looking as the Gen II but easier to maintain, even more brutal in terms of motor. Plus non of the tuning issues that you have with the Gen IV and there crazy heads and non cracked ECU.
Dead down though if I came across a White/Red/Black ACR hardcore Gev IV all reason would go out the window and I would sign on the bottom line and leave it completely stock. That or a offset striped plum crazy gen V that they keep talking about making.
I mean is this not "Crisis" material
I'll just leave this here...
How on earth can the same company that makes this

Also make such gems as the Caliber and PT cruiser? It boggles the mind.

because the company can't survive selling only specialty flagship cars that they lose money on?
Ahem...
2006 issue. They've been GRM a while now.

Err, yes quite easily. That color combo is 'Puke' material not Crisis material, and I love Vipers. I'll take a Gen I coupe in black with Silver stripes and saddle leather colord interior. Just like I got to use as our wedding car.
For similar money to a C5Z, it's almost a tossup. The Vette is a better street car, but really you're splitting hairs at that point.
The Viper is an extremely capable car that feels overengineered in every aspect. On track it very much gives the impression that—short of crashing—you're just never going to be able to run it hard enough to ever wear it out. Now, note that I've never driven a stock one for more than a couple laps on any track, but even in my limited experience there the cars felt as though they were just tires and brake pads away from true brilliance.
Bottom line is that they are absolutely the real deal in every aspect. It's not just a big engine in a modified Stratus chassis. Plus, think of all that slightly rough, suburban-single-mom-with-the-ankle tattoo-who-knows-her-way-around-the-back-seat-of-a-Harley 'tang that will suddenly be available to you.

See. You just saved yourself a pile of money on a Viper.

Not really, she's family, unfortunately.
Oh and we are 200 miles north of Kentucky.

Mom?
Clearly there are stereotypes to overcome. Time for a GRM project Viper?
