Bet you never thought of THIS. And i'm surprised i didn't interject this at some point, because this might be one of the strongest FWD transmissions EVER.

Mid 2012, Bolonis ditched the manual MR2 transaxle for an automatic transaxle out of a Toyota Camry and installed a few little modifications to the engine – before he knew it, he was making 10.65 passes at 130 MPH like it was no big deal.
Car is REALLY damn cool, too!
That's pretty cool, but I hope he didn't start with a nice Jalpa...
Kind of sounds like a modern Pantera or mangusta just with a little more crazy added in.

I was with the guy until the switch to an automatic transmission for drag racing. Ugh.
Why don't the FWD LS transmissions mate up?
Oh wait, Auto only...

So who has the design for the adapter plate that bolts an LSx to an MR2 manual transaxle? I assure you this has absolutely nothing to do with the fact than I have an NA SW20 and a mildly built LS1 on an engine stand.
maybe I'm missing something, but how does an MR2 transaxle even start to think about corralling all the torques of an LS?

By being made of pure 100% Japanese WTF, and easily harnessing 800whp+ 3sgtes all day long.
You never hear of any MR2 Turbo guys building custom transmissions, no matter what sort of power they make. This is why.
Toyota likes to play jokes like this. The same (but better, upgraded synchros!) transmission is found in the V6 Camry and Solara, attached to a motor that might actually give a 2jz a run for its money if it's allowed to run.
I wasn't kidding. This transmission is likely the strongest manual FWD trans of all time.
interesting. isnt the mkiv supra getrag the similar 'end-all' manual for RWD?

Stock out of the box, i think so? I don't know when T56s start breaking.
I dont know man. I broke both an MR2T transmission and a Camry V6 transmission. Both hooked up to a 3SGTE. Probably the first front wheel drive Celica with an Alltrac engine swap back in the SE in '97.
I know other people that broke AllTrac transmissions, which is basically an MR2T transmission.
Torque kills it.
In reply to Slippery:
I think that it is the rear drive portion that breaks. The standard E series transmission is nuts!!

The F40 manual trans from the G6 and some other GM stuff will bolt to the LS4, which has the GM metric bell housing pattern instead of the standard LS bolt pattern.

yep, the ls4 5.3 block has a metric bell pattern. the good news is those engines are getting cheap as hell now for all aluminum 300hp with all the goodness of the rest of the LS line, but use it in a MR layout in the back of something.
Automatic? We already have the 4T65HD and 4T80E...
It's manual transaxles that are the problem.
As far as GM stuff goes, the Getrag F23 from the 2000-2002 J-body with the 2200 OHV motor is supposedly strong for some unknown reason. The F40 as Will mentioned above is also a stout transaxle.

Like Swank says toyota trans are ridiculously stout. Even ones that would be swapped in an AW11 are used in 600+hp cars.
