Just missed it. Probably was only up for sale for 10 minutes.

Would have been perfect for the boy. Need a little work, 5-speed, and a/c.

Man that's a bummer when you see those. There was an EG Civic locally that looked completely rust free for $700, only up for an hour or so. Cool that deals are still out there from time to time, though!

Especially tough as a 16v head swap should've been in the long term plans anyways.

I'm not going to be so sure that this car is gone. At the bottom of the ad it says the ad was posted on 2-7 then updated on 2-15.
That means the car went unsold for a week and then the ad was updated 2 days ago.

One thing I am certain of, those pictures are likely not representative of how the car looks now. If these are actually his pictures and not stock google images then I am certain these pictures are not from this week because there have not been leaves on the trees in Allentown, PA for nearly 6 months.

Yea, got hold of him this morning. It's sold.

Odd that the listing only just popped up on my searches today.

That looked like a deal. I'm looking for some wheels for my brother and you have to sift through lots of crap on CL to find something halfway decent.

The map is for northern New Jersey and 201 area code is North Jersey. Just something to watch out for..

Further than I'd really want to go, but not bad. Thing is, I'm limiting it to a manual transmission, so the boy learns to drive one of those. Then we'll move on to the likes of an automatic.

Thank you very much for the find though!

There's a scruffy one in Philly I keep asking about, and getting no reply. http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/5427704936.html

Are these older Volvo's maintenance heavy?:

All older cars are. And those whiteblock cars have a bit more of the normal maintainance than the redblock 4cly cars.

To the op, don't be so let down over a $400 Volvo with a blown headgaskets. That's actually a little much, I've bought two running and driving ones for that much. 16v swap is nice but turbo is easier and more fun

It's no rush, just that one looked to be in particularly good shape.

Manual transmission, rear wheel drive brick. 200/700/900. He'll learn to drive properly, and hopefully live through the experience, then move on to other more entertaining vehicles.

Besides, I need to keep some noise out here, in case someone finds a great one I've missed, or in case chiodos wants to sell me one! ;-)

Forget the 900 they never made a manual in America, shame because they came with the strongest trans (getrag m90). You know what, I actually do have a manual 244 I need to get rid of before I move at the end of July.

Really? At ~900 miles, you're a little far away. But, I've done crazier things before!

This past summer, I had my Infiniti professionally shipped from CO to OH, over 1200 miles for $600. Dropped right to my front door.
That could mean that 900 miles could be $450. It's a pretty good value.

Though, I would also be happy to see a fly and drive road report.

Haha yeah we are a ways away. Mine is currently a daily driver and a bit of a rare bird so it's not a $400 by any stretch but it would indeed make your son a very nice first car. It was sold here a few years ago before I bought it if you would like the link (if I can find it) to see about what it is/ how much I'll looking for roughly

Edit: couldn't find the original link here but I did find this linked off a German forum arguing about the possibility of a 1985 turbo, this is my car and the vin they posted http://www.justacargeek.com/2011/10/1985-volvo-240-turbo-north-american.html?m=1

Actually it's not. I have seen some 240's go for $5k recently. $3k is becoming the new normal for these cars that are well taken care of.

Ive been on the receiving side of the "posted moments ago" Cragslist ad in the past. I was shopping parts for my DD at the time, to repair some damage from my car being hit while parked, and found the same model and year, but optioned the exact way I always wanted, posted 20 minutes before, for less than the check I got from the insurance company. Rust free, similar miles, well maintained, 2 owner, arizona car, in Cincinnati. I snatched it up...car-destiny is sometimes a beautiful thing
