a high cost locost!

I always loved the atom, but that is just nuts.. and maybe in a bad way. 1000bhp a ton? That's 2 pounds for every HP... my brain hurts to even consider that

No relation. Ariel has been building the regular Atom for a few years now, available from England with a Civic Si engine or from America with a Cobalt SS engine.

I saw a regular Atom the other night. I was talking to the driver and he said he really hated to take it out at night.

No, it wasn't because of the bugs it was because in anything but the best of conditions he was scared he wouldn't be able to see the road well enough and he'd bust up his $6,000 belly pan. That's right there is no kind of skid plate or metal underpinnings.

Ah, that's nothing. How about 500 hp, 1140 lbs - and 50 years of racing history and development? http://jalopnik.com/361033/caterham-to-partner-with-rs-performance-for-v8-seven

Dennis at DP cars built his Atom with a Hartley V8, based on the Brammo chassis. The Atom 500 is based on the Ariel Atom 3 chassis with an RST V8.

That's getting nearer the F1 Territory lol. Seriously, just 400 more hp and you're there.

I was referring to the fact that he has been developing a bike based v8 for one of the atom chassis, not the DP proto. it seems keith has confirmed that this is not the fruits of that labor.

I thought I saw a show with the V8 Aerial Atom.

On another note I will take either one :) Anyone know the mpg on the Aerial Atom with the Ecotec supercharged? Gotta be pretty good considering it weighs about 2000lbs less than the Cobalt.

Wow, that Seven looks murderous in that paint/wheel combination. I really want to hear that 2.4 liter V8, though... that has to sound magnificent.

Isn't there some guy already running around with an LS7 SE7EN?

And some guy with a stupidly powerful SR20DET?

I know there's video of that thing on track floating around the interwebz, let me see if I can find it. About the only thing I don't like is the headlights. Other than that... that car is pure unadulterated @(^#%^(@(#$&(@(*#&$ ;)

EDIT: I can't see it at work, but this SHOULD be the correct video (based on a link from another forum): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVNDGx8NNP4&feature=related If it sounds like an F1 car, then I found it ;)

Those links you found are from the "normal" RST V8. Not the supercharged 500 hp version, it's only got around 300 or so.

I had a chance to work on one of those a while back. A blue car, I think it's shown in one of the videos. Beautiful stuff. Whoever set up the engine management didn't take altitude changes into consideration, so it was upset at 5000'.

Should have gone with the MAP Daddy Dual MAP sensor from DIY.

I think it was running purely off TPS, without any input from a MAP sensor. All the Caterhams with Emeralds were having the same problem.
