As is being discussed in another thread, I am looking at E46 M3's and came upon this wrongly listed and misleading ad on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003-BMW-M3-SHOW-CAR-Built-motor-LOTS-EXTRAS-/160475444840?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item255d14f668

If you don't mind, would you guys help me get it removed by reporting it, and if you feel up to it, perhaps send them some angry messages, either way doesn't bother me. I just hate when people seem to intentionally mislead others in hopes to make a buck, please feel free to give this person some trouble.

I'm quick to help out a fellow GRM'er, but what is wrong with that ad?

It is listed as an M3, when it is simply a 330Ci with sport package and some M badged accessories.

It is just misleading to list something as an M3 which puts it in a totally different price range, not to mention it is found by going through the BMW>M3 directories...

It is misleading, but he does say it's a 330 in the description. This sort of thing is annoying to be sure, but then again lots of eBay ads stretch the truth. As long as they're not offering to ship the car from Nigeria I tend to ignore them and move on.

Holy wall 'O text

ebay seller said: PLEASE READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What I have is an extremely NICE 2003 BMW 330ci, M3 premium sport package. This is a florida car that is loaded up. It has the following options: leather, moonroof, power seats, harmon kardon sound, flip out tv/dvd, one touch up and down windows, HID self leveling headlights, Brembo brakes, manual transmission, and of course all the factory options that all BMW's include, the interior is in great shape, carpets look new, Black/Gray in color. I bought the car as a bone stock daily driver, the original owner was actually an older gentelemen that also used it as a daily driver. The car was perfect when I purchased just over a year ago. I am a painter by profession, so you know what happened over the next year of its life. I completly tore the car down and put a $5000 two tone paint job on it. As you can see in the pictures it is 350z blue on the bottom and BMW arctic silver on top, you cannot see it from the pics but the two colors are split up by a custom hand painted lime green pinstripe that really sets the tone. Only the best ppg materials were used during this process, including 4 coats of clear in which one was wet sanded off for that show paintshine. There is not a mark on the car.... it is near perfect. I have three months in labor wrapped up in just this paint, which tells you it was done the right way. I was done with the look of the stock hood so I next added a VIS carbon fiber hood that is off the 2009 M3. After all that was done I had to add wheels because the stockers just were not going to cut it. I added a custom made set of 18in staggered wheels that sport a healthy polished lip to give that drifter look. The rear tires are 255/40/18 and the fronts are 225/35/18 to retain that awesome factory BMW handling we all love. With the new wheels in place I had to dress up the brakes, I threw a set of 4 brembo drilled/slotted rotors on and disassembled the factory calipers so they could get the proper treatment, they received a fresh coat of red and a couple coats of clear to give the shine they deserve. I wasnt extremely happy with the power the inline 6 cylinder provided so I added a K&N air filter, mandrel bent long tube headers to replace the restrictive factory manifolds, I also added a pair of dual tipped titainium mufflers to give it some throat. Also a pair of new cams!! While I was there I replaced the factory clutch. While doing this I had to upgrade the stock fuel system to support the extra fuel draw, I went with a walbro 255 pump out of a 2003 cobra Mustang. I added an autometer electric fuel pressure guage to the interior that looks great and keeps you aware of how your car is running. The car really rips!! There is much more just to much to list. Everything that is done to this car was professionally done and looks great, you have to see to appreciate. The car has always been serviced with mobil 1 synthetic fluids every 3000 miles instead of the recommended 5000. I take extremely good care of my vehicles and am a car fanatic, nothing was done cheap or half ass the car is perfect. I love the car, its great but its just time for me to move on to my next project.... a 1000 hp Z06 corvette!!!! If you have any questions please email me or call. My name is Nick, you can reach me at 517-920-3507 I am open to any resonable offers. I have to sell this car asap!!!! Thanks for looking, By The Way the odometer reads 187,000 miles but It really only has 154,000, I had to change the cluster because the display went out at 147,000 Please come look at the car and drive it before you are scared away by the miles. The car is absolutly perfect, it drives better than my Z06 that has 25,000 miles on it. THANKS!! Also the rotors that are in the pictures are not the brembo rotors that are on it now, The drilled rotors were replaced by drilled and slotted for better braking, the pads wer just done as well. Im not sure why this autocheck is saying it was at an auction last month and it reported the miles to be at 170,000. The car has never been to an auction while I have owned it and its never read that for miles, The parts I had replaced came with 180,000 so that could not be true. Just wanted to let everyone know what was up with what the autocheck is saying. I did hit a fawn deer with it, and it only cracked the headlight which I had replaced with a factory Bmw headlight that cost about $700. The damage was very minor but the cops showed up so it got reported. This is an amazing car and you will not be diapointed. It runs and drives like a brand new car and has been very well taken care of.

Well this is the reply I got from my message, I simply said, your car is listed improperly, please stop misleading people.

And for the record, I understand people list things in misleading ways, the thing that REALLY bothers me is that I didn't find this by typing in M3 to the search box, I found it when I go through the directories for a specific model, meaning this isn't listed in BMW>3 Series> etc. etc. It is specifically listed in the BMW>M3 category...I could care less if the title is M3, but it is deliberately listed in a category, as an M3, where only other M3's are listed.

From the ebay add:

Coverage: This vehicle is eligible for up to $50,000 in Vehicle Purchase Protection-

So I go to the Vehicle Purchase Protection page and see:

Situations for Which Protection is Offered - 3.The vehicle make, model or year is different than what was described in the seller's listing at the time you placed your bid or offer.

So can you actually purchas this and then get Ebay to pay you difference between it and the cost of the as advertised M3?

In reply to racinginc215:

No, I didn't get burned, I just hate wading through utter crap when searching for a very specific car. It is bad enough I have to deal with things like that on a larger scale when searching for hockey jerseys and dealing with fakes, but I sure don't expect it when searching for a high ticket item like a newer M3.

Then report it to ebay and be done with it, don't spam this board because ebay pisses you off on a legit ad. Yeah, its miscategorized, but who really cares. Why would it be a problem for GRM'ers? Go post in ebay's forums if you have that big of a problem with it.
